starting earlier this month, step 2 ck exams will include audio/video questions. whether they are experimental or count towards your score at this early stage, I'm not quite sure.

so do you wear special headphones or does the sound just blare through the computer speakers?

guess I know I'll miss at least 2 questions 😀.

Maybe the options will be:

a. asystole
b. bradycardia
c. tachycardia
d. I suck at heart sounds

I didnt have any audio/video questions at all. I gave on 17th Aug.
At the start, i asked the proctor if the headones work, he said, they dont. Then I said what if there s a multimedia ques on my exam. He said dont worry, it wont be there.
So some centres are perhaps still not giving A-V questions yet.

i took step 2 aug 19 and had two video clips at the end of two sections. both were heart sounds, and at the end of one..i was ready to choose my answer and the whole computer froze!! the staff came to help me but by that time, the block time was over and it automatically ended my block. i was really upset about this. i guess they reported it to nbme, but i think im gonna call them and let them know because it wont be fair if i get docked for that...the staff told me if i were to fail nbme would let me take it again free of charge (and i was like okkkk like im gonna want to take this test all over again???)

I had 2 q's with heart sounds at the end of a couple sections. No big deal, but they did take a bit longer than some of the other questions. Afterwards I realized they are probably expiremntal, right? I mean, dont they always test q's before they count and if we are in the first month....

I got the following e-mail from NBME folks when I got home from the exam. Real helpful. 🙄

SPECIAL NOTICE FOR STEP 2 CK EXAMINEES:

USMLE recently introduced test items with associated media exhibits into the Step 2 CK examination. Under certain circumstances while viewing test items with media exhibits, the examination can appear to "freeze" (i.e., examinees cannot close the media exhibit, answer the associated item, or move to another item). If this should happen, the examinee should simply PRESS THE ENTER KEY TO CONTINUE WITH THE EXAM.

Further details regarding this issue can be found at http://www.usmle.org/General_Information/Announcements/Multimedia.html.

Does anyone know if the total time for the test has been extended with these new media questions? I would think that those questions would take longer than regular ones.

No extra time. 60 mins for 46 questions for 8 blocks. These 2 did take me a bit longer. But remember not to spend too much time on any one question, audio or not, because they dont count more or less. Mine were also the last question of the block so I knew how many q's I wanted to go back to and how much time I had left.

I took my test yesterday and I also had 1 heart sound for the last question of 2 different blocks. They weren't that hard but take about twice as long so give yourself extra time.
