Did a search, never found an answer to my question.

One of the programs I applied to for a 4th year audition rotation is requesting a letter of introduction/interest in the program. Can previous students or those "in the know" expound upon what exactly they're looking for here.

I was assuming it's no more than a paragraph that shows why you're interested in EM (or whatever field it is), that program in particular, and maybe a few miscellaneous details about myself. Any ideas out there?

Thanks!

never heard about an intro letter before. I would like to know the answer to this question too.

On a couple of my away rotation applications, it asked for a letter of introduction from my school noting 4th year status and good standing. I'm not sure if that's what your applications are asking for or not. Are you supposed to write the letter of introduction or your school?

Interestingly enough, that was my understanding as well, so I figured it was done. I emailed my contact with the program to find out if everything had been received in full, and he said that he could check in on it and get back to me. In the mean time, he told me to go ahead and send a letter of intent/interest, transcripts, and step 1 score if I hadn't already.

So I'm figuring someone, somewhere has had to do this before as well. Anyone....Bueller?

I had to write a letter of intent for a rotation at Duke. Basically just stated my interest in the field, and then mentioned how I want to get the best experience possible and how Duke would be the best place for that since it's top 10, etc. Just butter their buns a little. I don't know if that matters, but I got in without a problem.

For Mayo they required a letter from the Dean of the school, like a "pre-dean" letter and a letter of recommendation. For another one I had to write a mini personal statement on why I wanted to rotate at that particular program. It's annoying but I'm glad all of them are in, now the waiting begins.

yea...that was one involved application. Waiting sucks. website says 400/700! like really? away rotation is that competitive? WTF
Also, I think its a number's game + first come first serve - atleast at mayo. weird

yea, pulled out of mayo app. that makes one less student to compete with for a spot. 😀

good luck

I had to write a little paragraph on the application for a couple places and basically just consisted of why I wanted to go into that field and why I wanted to do it there. It should be pretty easy for anyone to write, after all I would hope if you apply for an away you know why you want to go there.

Yeah, Mayo away rotation app is quite involved. I thought I was applying for residency. However, I'm glad I got "selected" for my away Surgery rotation in Aug. Good luck to anyone still waiting.
