Yea, I suck. Why can't I get a 30? Any suggestions on how to hit the 30 mark within a week? 😕

Toujours, are you finishing every section? That often is the determining factor.

As for my scores, 31 on the CBT 3 five weeks ago, presently scoring consistant 12s, 13s on EK 30 minuite quizzes for each chapter.

Kaplan 1: (33) 10PS, 10VR, 13BS
Kaplan 2: (38) 14PS, 10VR, 14BS
Kaplan 3: (39) 12PS, 12VR, 15BS

Kaplan 4: (41) 14PS, 12VR, 15BS
AAMC 8: (39) 13PS, 13VR, 13BS

Man I'm taking it August 20th ... maybe I shouldn't have looked at this thread.

dang. if this is indicative of what most aug. 20 testers are doing, i'm done

Don't worry SDN is only a very small sample of all testers.

Work on your weak spots and make sure to have your timing down.

And remember to think and not get so nervous you mind goes blank...

Remember you can always retake it!!

It is not Step 1, one and you're done!!

TPR Diag 1: (23) 6PS, 7VR, 10BS
TPR Diag 2: (25) 6PS, 9VR, 10BS
TPR Diag 3: (28) 8PS, 9VR, 10BS
AAMC 9: (31) 13PS, 9VR, 9BS
AAMC 10: (35) 13PS, 11VR, 11BS

This is over four months with AAMC10 taken last week. I was taking the TPR class because i've been in the industry too long and forgot all the basics. And i really need to score high because my undergraduate gpa sucks.

I've been focusing too hard on VR because i know its interesting to me because i suck and i know i can do better. The rest i believe is rote-memorization and problem solving. Thus my neglected Bio score. Only 11 days left!

So, my scores as of late have been a bit erratic:

In chronological order:

CBT 3 (june): 10 PS 10 VR 9 BS (29)
CBT 5 (july): 10 PS 11 VR 10 BS (31)
CBT 7 (july): 11 PS 12 VR 11 BS (34)
CBT 8 (last week): 11 PS 10 VR 11 BS (32)
CBT 10 (this week): 14 PS 12 VR 11 BS (37)

Thoughts? I think I'll take CBT 9 this Friday and that'll be it. Not sure if I hope to do well or not on that, because my highest score came after a relatively lower score.

AAMC 8: (28) 9 PS, 11V, 8 BS
AAMC 9: (30) 9 PS, 11V, 10 BS
AAMC10: (30) 9 PS, 10V, 11 BS
AAMC7: (31) 8 PS, 14V, 9 BS

(all within the last 2 weeks)

Are there any statistics & probability buffs here who can tell me what my chances are of actually getting 30 on the real thing, with these scores?
Was it a mistake not to take more Kaplan tests? Maybe I should do some of those now, instead of more AAMC, to anticipate harder PS and BS?
I feel like I squeak by with a lot of guessing and luck on my side, and I'm worried I'm gonna get pummeled on the 20th. I'm still shaky on a lot of content.
And as for the WS, well, I write like a snail. I've basically been skipping the WS on the practice tests. Suggestions on what to do for the next 5 days would be very much appreciated...

Also trying to keep the Aug. 20 thread alive...

CBT 8 (last week): 11 PS 10 VR 11 BS (32)
CBT 10 (this week): 14 PS 12 VR 11 BS (37)

Five points in a week! That is damn impressive. Please tell me how you spend your time.

I did Kaplan for that reason. To encounter more difficult info. The Kaplan sectionals are really hard. Hard to say whether or not you will break 30. Most likely depends on whether or not you are a good standardized testtaker.
I am not and I know I need to average mid 30's to make sure I have a chance at a 30 when the pressure hits. Although as I get older I have been getting better at this. Hell, before I started taking practice tests, I never thought I would get a 30 or higher even on practice tests. So many of my friends never did!!

I think I owe alot it to my first year in pharm school because we have MC tests at a clip of one or two a week the entire semester. I mean it never stops coming. I have learned how to study less and reason my way through the tests and get the same grades. I know I am more comfortable now with being tested. Just think during finals you only got one chance at that test to get the grade you need. You can the MCAT as many times as you can fork out the money. There is to me less pressure for this exam in some ways.

Prepare the best you can and just take your time and think through the test.

Well, first, I think the 32 was a bit on the low side, especially verbal. I'm really not sure how the PS just shot up to a 14; either I got lucky, or reviewing the "Prep 101" study guides someone posted helped out. It's a bit concerning to me that scores can be so jumpy. I sorta think of it like the stock market: it goes up and down a lot, but there is overall gain. Maybe we should be making moving-averages of our scores? Just kidding... sorta.

Anyways, hopefully CBT 9 results won't really scare me right before the test, because I'm a bit giddy right now, and would like to stay that way...

AAMC 8: (39) 13PS, 13VR, 13BS

That's just disgusting lol

Just hoping I can keep it together on the 20th.

What are you folks gonna be doing the next few days?

Crying, if you keep posting your scores. Seriously, good job.

1. I'll force myself to do light review; it'll be painful to open the books and recognize the quantity of information I still don't know and it's a tough call because at this point I don't want to feel any panic. But this will probably take the form of:

2. More EK & Kaplan section tests, and probably a fourth and last CBT on Saturday.

3. Eat vitamins, chain-smoke, play videogames and engage in unabashed self-pity as I engorge my body with pork, doritos and similar brain foods. I mean why change now?

Don't forget, though, that although the MCAT will almost definitely test some content that you don't know, there will be lots of stuff that you don't know that won't be tested. For example, I never learned the functions/origins of all the hormones in the endocrine system (I know it was stupid, but that's okay), and it was not even tested once on my MCAT. I'm not saying you shouldn't try to learn all the content, I'm just saying that if you don't know every little detail, chances are you'll be alright. 👍 Don't beat yourself up too bad, and good luck all you August 20thers!

Enjoy those fuzzy AAMC practice exams while you can!

haha jk they're still good prep.

Plus I guess not all of the mcat forms are harder. 🙄

Well, just took my last AAMC for what it is worth.

I finished alot faster this time (15 minutes in each science), but I never go back over my answers. I want the extra time on the real one as a bonus if I have any.

I must say the curve on AAMC 10 was brutal. I missed some easy ones and guessed right so all in all it equals out.

I thought I was going to get a nice score but got my average. Oh well, I will take it on the real one any day!!

From what everyone says about the real one, I will be happy to finish all the sections in time and break a 28. At this point, I do not care and want to get it over with.

I probably will need to see an actual MCAT before I will know how to prep correctly for it. :luck: everybody. Let's hope we get one we can at least understand. We're next!!!

I wonder if we're gonna get the same forms as the Aug. 16 people, since the date of score releases for both tests is Sept. 19th. This means they're on the same curve right? Ugh, this is scary - it looks like the Aug. 16 one was hard...if this follows the same trend as the July test, it also looks like we're screwed. Later test in the month = harder test?

Nope. Because August 9th and August 14th test dates have the same expected score release, but are different forms.

How can you be so sure?
Both Aug 9th and Aug 14th people said the PS section of the test was chem heavy...

...then someone in the aug 16th thread mentioned a monkey passage that someone in one of the earlier threads mentioned, so maybe they just mix and match with each month's version or something

It seemed like all of the passages talked about by August 9th, 14th, and 16th people were different. I don't think they'd use the same passage in administrations so closely together because they know people are going to talk about them.

Where in the August 16th thread do they talk about the monkey passage? I had one on August 14th so I'd be able to tell if it was the same one or not.

ps/vr/bs

CBT 4: 12/8/11
CBT 5: 13/8/12
CBT 6: 12/8/11

^ Burning out above... do NOT take 3-4 tests in a week. I guarantee you Verbal will drop!

CBT 7: 10/10/13
CBT8: 12/10/10 --> wtf???
CBT9: 13/9/11

FL 1: 11/9/9
FL 2: 13/10/10
FL 3: 11/12/14
FL 4: 11/8/12
FL 5: 13/8/11
FL 6: 10/14/12

Taking CBT 10 tomorrow and I'm done

Bio is really getting on my nerves. Especially on the latest CBTs (8 and 9).. I feel like I'm back to when I started studying. I'm hoping for a 10 Verbal on test day.. and a 12-13 PS/BS .. pleeease

It seems like a lot of people on July 13 scored lower than they did on their AAMCs. I've been hoping I could get a 30 with my practice scores but it seems very unlikely now without some kind of fortuitous divine intervention.

Hmm, I took the Kaplan course and practice exams from AAMC as well as the Kaplan ones. I found the PS easier than a lot of the Kaplan ones but harder than the AAMC ones. The bio I thought was pretty similar to both, maybe a little harder than Kaplan. I usually do well on the verbal but what really got me for some reason was that monkey passage...I hope it didn't kill my score...

enjoy the harsh curve. I thought I was going to get 35+. Does not matter anyway since they are so much easier than the real thing. I can not wait to see the real one so that I can know what to expect. I thought AAMC 10 was really easy. The verbal was the toughest for me. I had to guess more but I still got them right. Hopefully, my correct guessing will remain through Monday.

All I can say is damn... you guys are hardcore.

Sometimes I have to look at the statistics after reading SDN to reassure myself that a 39 really IS the 38 really IS the 99percentile, and not the 80%tile SDN makes it out to be.

I know the feeling. I plan to get off of here after tomorrow and do not come back until after the exam.

I do have good practice scores, but I have no clue how it will relate to the new CBT MCAT that is out now. Seems like everyone says it is harder. But, come to think about. After every MCAT or test, the "panic of the mob" mentality persists. So, it will be what it will be. I can always take it again, again, again, and again...until it falls. I just want a 30 with nothing less than a 8 in any section.

Update: just took CBT 9, my last practice test:

12 PS 12 VR 13 BS (37)

Glad to end on a high note, I think. Let the weekend fly by. I wish I could just sleep through it.
