I didn't see a post for the 8/26 MCAT, so I'm wondering if anyone is taking it on August 26? Have you started taking practice exams? Are you still reviewing the material? Is this your first MCAT?

I just started reviewing and will be taking my first practice MCAT tomorrow. Good luck everyone!! 🙂

My 3rd anniversary (I'm a non-trad, btw) is on the 1st. I'm seriously considering not checking my scores until the 2nd. They'll either be really good or really bad news, I think. I don't see this turning out okay. Either I did great or I did badly, and when this is my outlook, I presume the outcome was probably the latter.

Best of luck to the rest of you!

PS 09 VR 11 BS 13 WR M(haha) 33M. Lower than I was expecting, but I guess I'll take it.

Does anyone think the 9 in Verbal would hurt me? I did a lot of verbal practice tests but I rarely got a 10 on them and never did I get more than 10 on any of the AAMC/EK/Princeton Practice tests.

Life is full of different shades a gray. Try not to have such a fatalistic view on life! Im sure you did fine.

nice job truebelief. yes 9 in VR is bad. I was getting 11 on practice aamc VR. I even got a 13 on one. But I remmeber I missed 4 questions on the real test. Only if I had gotten those 4 questions then I would have a 50% chance of at least getting a 10. whatever.

With a S WS and a 35 composite, you will be more than fine. Don't worry about it.

35Q!

I'm so relieved! I was hoping I did better on the PS, but I can't complain about a 35! I had 37-38 on all of my Kaplan practice tests (didn't take the AAMC ones), so, I was hoping for a 35 or higher on the real test, and I got it so whoo hoooo :hardy:

A couple of questions though:

Is a Q for WS ok? I don't really get the letter scores.

Also, I applied to a bunch of top schools (the likes of yale, stanford, cornell, etc)...do you think a 35 is good enough to get an interview at some of them? I have a 3.99 GPA so that's in my favor, and decent ECs.

Yea, thtas my question. Of course 35 is not super-competitive for ivy leagues but I wanna try my luck there as an international student. lets see.

I was predicting anywhere from a 38-41 and I got it.

Average:
PS: 14
VR: 12
BS: 15

8/26

PS: 14
VR: 11
BS: 14
Writing Sample: S

So I scored a few points lower than my average, but I'm not complaining. I expected to get lower on my PS and higher on my VR and BS, but it's all good. It's plenty good to get me a shot at the Ivies, and I know that past a certain point on the MCAT, it really doesnt matter what your score is. It's all about the publications, research, service, and whatever you do that makes you different from all the thousands of applicant clones out there. Thanks everyone from SDN, and good luck ya'll!

I was pretty nervous about checking my scores...like a lot of others I thought I bombed it. I was getting 30-33 on practices, I was sure I got below a 30 on the real thing. Ended up with a 33R! Man I am so suprised! Congrats everybody for all their hard work, go out and celebrate!

Viscous: The funny thing is I am international too and I am wondering about the same things. I have a pretty good Undergrad GPA (finished my program in 3 years) and am now doing a Masters. I don't have much clinical experience but decent EC's and Volunteering. We'll see what happens.

Looks like everyone who posted did well on the exam. Congrats everyone! 🙂

No, it won't kill you unless there is some cut off at the Med schools you applied to that will pre screen you out. You have a 35 and that is awesome. Congrats.

Yahoo!!!

Guess there was that curve in bio.....was sweating like woa

Good enough for me

The curve came through for me, in a major way...

Anyone want to buy a ton of EK books? 🙂

I'm afraid the curve didn't come through for me... PM about those books, if you've still got them. Congrats to all who received scores they are happy with.

Would like to add another 35 to the forum. seems to be the lucky number so far. Got a Q on writing. i was scoring from 37-42 on the practice aamcs, but really thought i had bombed this test. i felt certain i wouldn't get above a 9 on the physical sciences and ended up with an 11. and thought i did really well on verbal and ended up with a 10. my scores are a complete shock to me; i did well in BS (14) which i was least prepared for. and did the worst on the sections i thought i would nail. what an unpredictable and arbitrary test. best of luck to everyone checking their scores over the next couple days.

Guess I'll be the first to add a not-so-stellar score here so hopefully others will join the bandwagon and make me feel not so alone 🙁

26P overall
VR: 10
PS: 7 👎
BS: 9
WS: P

AHHH...not at all what I was expecting!

anyone else out there in a similar situation?

Hmm... I checked my grades and they weren't really what I expected.

AAMC practice tests:
#10 B13 P12 V11
#6 B12 P13 V10 (Last test I took b4 exam)
#5 B12 P11 V10
#4 B13 P11 V11
I did others but those were done by taking longer pauses and whatnot so I wont put those grades up.

Actual Test:
B12 P09 V10
Which means I have a 31 Q... kinda lower than what I was getting on AAMC's. So I'm not really happy. I'm a canadian student so I'm wondering whether I should retake or not. If I had a 32 without any grades under 10 I wouldn't think twice about retaking but I'm not so sure about that 9 in physics. That weird passage with things dangling from a thread really messed with my brain. Ugh! to retake or not to retake... that is the question.

Grats to everyone else, you guys did amazing.

I'm also Canadian. Canada is all about cutoffs so you may want to retake to boost the P to a 10. Other than that, your score is fine for applying to Canada.

The states on the other hand..

I'm a retake here is what I got:
April 18 MCAT:
Physical: 8
Verbal: 7
Biological: 9
Writing: Q
24Q

August 26 MCAT:
Physical: 11
Verbal: 6
Biological: 12
Writing: O
29O

Man I dunno if I am going to retake, I dunno, tried pretty much everything to raise my verbal score, but still at the same spot. Did pretty much all of berkeley review, princeton review, kaplan, examkracker verbal workbook. Maybe if I take it a third time, I can probably raise my sciences but probably not my verbal. I dunno i get a feeling that verbal skills is something that u have to acquire when u r a child. I no some people who improve, but I get the feeling that they already had the skill, but its a matter of accessing it. I just totally suck at reading and english. Always haunted me for my whole life with low SAT verbal score, low english grades throughout my life. This is really the only factor I think is my weakness. I have a 3.97 GPA (english course brought it down!!!) and lots of EC with long term experiences. Got several good candidates for LORs, knew them for atleast 1 yr. Maybe u guys can give me some suggestions.

Yep, as predicted PS and BS killed me, though PS wasn't as bad as I thought.

I figured PS would be as low as 7, because I literally didn't answer the last passage. I had never come close to running out of time and it caught me off guard and I didn't even guess them----they were blank!

PS - 9
VR - 10
BS - 9

28O

In any case both PS and BS were still a a couple of points off of what I wanted.

I retook on Sept 13th, and felt a lot better about that test. So I anxiously await those scores!

Just checked my scores:

PS = 12
BS = 12
VR= 8
Writing: Q

Total:32Q

Damn verbal is making me consider retaking it, I mean an 8 is the lowest most schools will accept; I knew I did iffy on this section and I was hitting 9-10's on practice. Any ideas on retakes? I feel if I retook it I won't do so well on the sciences this time. Surprised on the writing though, I literally wrote half a page for both essays.

Btw does anyone know the average number of people who give the exam on any given date? They give the percentile but I'm curious to know the exact # of people.

Verbal: 9
Physics: 10
Bio: 11
Writing: Q

Pretty much exactly the same as my AAMC's lol...I don't even know what to feel right now. I'm not happy nor sad but I think I will end up retaking. Bah..

funny thing is I prepared the most the verbal reasoning part and got the least in it and practiced writing sample with 2 essays and got an R. pretty weird.

yea, Ill be applying from Canada, i know one girl who was my physics TA and got into john hopkins as international student. lets keep our fingers crossed, my gpa is also stellar except first year which is 3.4ish, so lets wait and see 😛

Average AAMC Practice:

31.5 PS: 10.5 VR:11.3 BS: 9.67

Actual:

The curve...it is exists and it is helpful. I didn't even answer the last 3 standalone physical science questions and was massively rushed for VR and BS.

Prayer and faith.

Avg AAMC practice score - 36

Actual MCAT - 34

**** this ****.

Woa man, relax... you got a 34 which is only 2 points under ur average. You know like everyone else that the AAMC exams are slightly easier than the real thing and besides, a 34 is a pretty good score. I scored like 3-4 points under my AAMC average because of some nasty stuff that happened the day b4 and the day of the exam and im not all over the place cursing and stuff. Calm yourself, take a deep breath and worst case scenario, redo the exam (I know thats a disgusting thought, but what are you gonna do?).

WOW your VR is amazing! I was thrilled about my 11, never scored higher than that on my practice tests on the VR. But 15? Wow

Life is full of different shades a gray. Try not to have such a fatalistic view on life! Im sure you did fine.

Thanks, I finally checked. My girlfriend (who'd already seen them) made me because she was getting sick of me pacing around and chugging Trapist beers.

36S, broken down as:
PS: 11
VR: 12
BS: 13
W: S

Composite looks good... I think... but I'm a bit worried about PS, esp since my BCPM GPA was hurt by my physics and math courses (eg, got two Cs in upper level math courses) and I was hoping to make up for that with the MCAT, but overall, very very happy and relieved. I thought I'd absolutely bombed VR (like 6 or below)... as long as everything is above 10 in each section I'm happy. Well, as much as this feels like the end of the road, it's just the beginning. I wish everyone here the best of luck as we all make this journey.

Wow, scores up early. My heart almost stopped.

My predictions:
PS: 8 or 9
VR: 11 or 12
Bio: 12
Writing: Q

Actual:
PS: 9
VR: 12
BS: 12
Writing: O

Pretty dead on. I'm content considering I only studied for a month or so and am 6 years older than I was when I took the content courses. Writing surprises and disappointing me, but none of the (Canadian) schools I am applying to have a cutoff. With my 4.00 and couple pubs or so I should be good to go now. I hope. I'm happy for today anyways, I'm sure I'll talk myself down eventually. No rewriting here though, unless I get rejected or something silly like that.

Congrats or best of luck on the next round!

And thanks for the study help!

:hardy:

Now for the interviews (I hope)...

I'm pretty happy as that was my target score when going in to take the test

I'm a Drexel BS/MD and needed a 27 (9,9,9) to "pass" so I'm good to go

I think if i took it again with more time (only got the aamc practice tests 2 weeks before actual test) I could have done better

Maybe someday I'll retake if I get bored lol

oh and I got a Q on the essay.. is that good lol?
thankfully no interviews/essays/any of that nonsense!

Ya same problem. PS-11, VR-10, BS-12, but writing M... So supposedly medical schools in the States don't really care about the Writing score? I'm currently attending a Canadian university and here, med schools definitely care about the writing scores... Feedback anyone???

I'm excited. I just hope I can get in during this cycle. oh btw the first time i took it, i thought i did awesome on PS and ended up with 8. This time thought did all right, and 12. on bs this time, i guessed, without reading the questions, on at least 3. and still 14. This proves that big curve exists, and so does some higher being.

Looks like almost everyone got great scores!! congratulations, guys!!!! i'm kinda disappointed with mine 🙁 getting ready for January 2009.. I knew I wasn't ready, but it was too late to cancel or reschedule. 😡 Is anyone else not happy with what they got?

wow we seriously got the exact same breakdowns. i took it on 8/22. im definitely not retaking but that 8 in vr is just kicking my a**. any thoughts from anyone about if that 8 is gonna make it look bad?

Congratulations to everyone who is happy about their score! There are alot of good scores posted so far. Good luck for any retakers also.
