I didn't see a post for the 8/26 MCAT, so I'm wondering if anyone is taking it on August 26? Have you started taking practice exams? Are you still reviewing the material? Is this your first MCAT?

I just started reviewing and will be taking my first practice MCAT tomorrow. Good luck everyone!! :)

Hey everyone! So, I took the Aug. 26th MCAT as well and I'm terrified about getting my scores back. I just read through this thread and feel pretty much the same as everyone else about the sections, with PS having a ton of calculations and BS having some tough passages that I freaked out on. I took the Kaplan course over the summer, and was consistently getting 37-38 on the Kaplan tests, but I feel like my real score will be far lower than what I got on the practice tests.

did u take any of the aamc practice tests?

No, my Kaplan instructors told me that it was not necessary to take the AAMC tests because the Kaplan tests were "very similar to the real MCAT" and correlated well with the actual score you get. I really wish that I would have taken some of the AAMC practice tests, but it is too late now... :(

wait r u serious? That's the most bull**** I've ever heard! AAMC gives the best practice for the type of questions that appear on the MCAT even if the difficulty might be slightly less.

The MCAT felt very different to me compared to the Kaplan practice tests with respect to the style of the questions, and that's why I now wish that I would have practiced using the AAMC tests. When I took the course though, they kept emphasizing that their question types were just like the MCAT.

I'm not really sure what to think about how well the Kaplan scores predict your actual scores. I have a friend who got low 30's on the Kaplan practice tests and ended up with a 39 on the actual test, and another friend who got 39-41 on the practice tests and got a 35 on the actual test. Even though a 35 is a great score, she was really disappointed because she got her hopes up with the high practice test scores.

The last time I took the MCAT I only did book content review and I took all of the practice AAMCs online. I ended up scoring worse (-3 pts) on the actual test because I didnt know how to approach the WTF questions. Combined with the additional nervousness on test day, I felt that the AAMCs were unreasonably easier. I hear Kaplan practice tests do a decent job of exposing you to those wtf questions, which I think is very important! This time around I did more difficult practice questions and I wasn't fazed as much by the WTF factor.

Only 9 days and 22 hours until the scheduled release time! (according to my countdown widget thing...) I've been following the mcat forums all summer... seems like this is the time everyone starts freaking out and having nightmares. Hang tight!

I think it all comes down to having expectations on the test day. If you expect the test to mirror the aamcs then you're definitely going to get caught off guard when seemingly nonsense questions come up. That and nervousness..that's what it comes down to.

I hadn't realized there's only about a week left before scores. Maybe I'll spare myself the agony and wait a little longer before checking it. I bet everyone here actually did better than they thought.

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one going crazy!! I keep having MCAT dreams...some mornings I wake up relieved bc I imagined that I had done great...other times I picture just absolutely bombing it and then debating whether its worth spending anymore money on secondaries. And I do the same thing in the daytime, too. I had a set list of schools I was applying to, but after that test I just don't even know. I feel like if everyone thought it was hard then I should expect around my amcas scores, but WOW that was a hard test. So I'm kinda waiting until the scores come in to know whether I should tailor some applications more towards reach or safety schools. This is brutal! Anyone else finding it hard to continue on w/apps with the largest factor in your application still an unknown?? I think it makes it almost impossible!!

I just read one of your posts saying that the amcas 10 is the most representative of your score...is this a pretty well accepted belief? I certainly hope so :) !!!!

I am definitely having a very hard time with my secondaries because I don't know if putting in so much work on some of them is worth it if my MCAT score is going to be bad. Sigh.

I gave a more optimistic prediction after the test and I think its time to make a better prediction.

V 9
P 9
B 11

Although I hope I'll score higher...magically.

The MCAT office told me that our score will come on the 30th and not earlier because they had so many tests recently.

i looked into the UTI passage a bit more, and the entire study the passage was based on was published less than a year ago, so there is a good chance it was an experimental passage!

Whoa, nice find. I would be glad if the passage was experimental.

well, it's not good enough explanation for us. that would be understandable if we paid less than those who get their scores on time. I want my score on Friday!!!!.. to ruin my weekend haha :) or to throw a huge party!!. which I'm gonna do anyway lol

Everyone I know that took the test said they got their scores at different times of the day. Does anyone know if there is a specific time it will be posted if they do come out on friday.

Have you witnessed the s**t show on the 8/22 thread? People fighting with each other, name calling, accusations of inappropriate comments, a sleepless night... someone even got banned! Something like 15,000 hits in the last 36 hours... wow!! (now that's a thread!)

So it appears that the MCAT peeps are doing some stuff for 2009 planning on Thursday and Friday this week which explains why we have to wait 'til next week. Hopefully it will be on-time!

6 days to go.

That's about 12 classes for me (2 in Art History which is a joke though), probably like 12 madden games, 12 blunts, a couple movies, a couple sleepless nights on the 28th and 29th, and enough time for me to register and buy myself a glock/gat/9 mm just in case i have to use it on the 30th

Good luck to all, as this site helped me numerous times this past summer while studying :luck:

It's been a month. You guys SHOULD have gotten scores today.

(If only AAMC truly worked like this...my last test day was 30+ as well, and it sucked.... try to enjoy your weekend as much as possible. They are coming soon!)

I take it they won't be here today then?

doomsday is approaching....

I'm actually glad that I have two exams on the 30th to keep me busy studying this weekend. I have promised myself not to check my scores until after the exams. That would be the worst thing to go into an exam feeling like a complete failure. On the other hand, if I did well, I might not even go to the exams

hang in there everyone! in a couple days, however painful it may be, at least we'll know one way or the other whether we have a chance at being at med school next year! and remember, if you really are passionate about something, you WILL get it in time. think POSITIVELY (yea that was for me as much as anyone else) I actually have written in my planner on Tuesday, "NO PANICKING!"

after all, it is just life ;)

im in the same situation as you, as i have my first two exams of the semester coming up (in two of my harder classes). But the timing of your exams are perfect. Mine are on Oct 2nd and 3rd. So i might wait until after my exam on the 3rd to check my scores. So i still have a week to go .

Yuck Dr. Dre! I'm sorry!!!! Thats awful timing. It probably would be best not to even check until the third since nothing is going to change if you look asap. That said, I know I wouldn't have the willpower to wait three extra days! Best of luck to you in whatever you decide!

I thought I'd do the same thing when I had a week to go. It didn't work for me. There I was, at 5pm, right on schedule with a Biochem exam the next day. :p

two more days...I'm not sure if I'm ready to see my score yet. This week is supposed to be a good week..

Hey everyone,

so while the next couple of days will be agonizing...here's some wishful thinking ive been doing. I was reading through the june 13th thread and almost everyone who posted said it was wicked wicked hard and thought they bombed, yet their scores were good! so im guessing they had an amazing curve...
our exam was also pretty WTF for almost everyone on here, so hopefully our curve will be quite generous as well?? :luck:

I really, really, really hope that you are right!

I think I would be screwed even with a generous curve because I found VR to be the hardest as the passages were longer than expected and I just couldn't focus for some reason; reading other posts, people were saying VR was either normal easier than AAMC. Good thing is I have Tuesday/Wednesday off from school so I'll probably chill out before looking at my score

heh I love how looking at our score is turning into a sort of ritual for us.

g'luck everyone I will likely look at it after the test I have on Tuesday, as opposed to before...

I took the 8/22 exam and it seemed like everyone thought the VR was a breeze. Not me though, i thought it was just as bad as all the aamc tests I had taken. I did fine and i think its because when people think its "easy" it means aamc has thrown lots of traps in there (aka decent curve). who knows, but good luck tommorrow!

Its almost time to either  or  or . Which will it be...stay tuned to SDN and you will find out.

I called up AAMC and the MCAT specialist said that they are due tomorrow... but when I asked if by any chance they are coming out today, the specialist said 'they haven't told us anything about it yet.' so it's up in the air for today...

Yeah, I got the same response.

SDN: The land of eternal optimism.

I already feel like I'm going to throw up and the scores probably won't even come out until tomorrow...this is going to be a long day! :(

Hello "fellow 26ers": Tomorrow is the Jewish New Year. May it bring blessings, great mcat scores and med school admission!!! Let's all keep our hopes up and remember whatever is meant to be, is meant to be. We all did our part. We studied...hard...now, we can only wait and see what type of ball be get served. So...don't bug out, it's part of the challenges that we will all have as doctors. Patience and understanding is very rewarding sometimes. Here is some  for all of you. All the Best!
