I noticed on the AMCAS application that there is a question regarding your intent to take the August 2001 MCAT. Since I will know my scores before I submit the app, I will be able to decide beforehand whether or not I actually will be taking the August exam. In the event that I do not score as high as I would like, how would answering "yes" to this question effect the rest of the application process? Would med schools not review my application before my August scores come out? Would the process proceed as it normally does? What are the pros and cons to answering yes to this question?

I have the same question.

I took the MCAT in August for the first time. I think the responses of the schools depends on their policies. I submitted my AMCAS before my MCAT scores came out - Oct. 4 AMCAS and Oct. 20 MCAT scores arrived.
Some schools will review your app without the MCAT scores and send you a secondary just because you applied (so called non-screeners). I was out of town the weekend my MCAT scores arrived and I came home to my MCAT scores and a bunch of secondary applications. I think the schools may get the scores a bit earlier than we do as well. Clearly they couldn't have really reviewed the application with my MCAT scores b/c they didn't have them. I recieved some postcards from schools saying that they would review my application when my MCAT scores arrived. I don't know if this would be different if I had one set of scores already on the books or not.

I know this is a different situation from what you are faced with, but I do know many schools are different. You may want to do a search of previous posts, b/c I seem to recall a thread on this type of question before.
