Hoping for some insight. I had a family member unexpectedly pass away and I'm in no shape to be taking my mcat next week. I have already submitted my primary application, and wanted to get someone's opinion on whether it would completely ruin my application if I took the mcat at the end of August. I understand this is late and my scores would not be sent to schools until end of september.

My sGPA is a 3.35, cGPA is 3.39, and grad GPA is 3.6 with a really strong application overall.

Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks-

How have you been doing on the practice tests so far? Also, if you're willing there is nothing wrong with taking a gap year, working through your hardships and studying/taking the MCAT/applying fresh and ready.

End of August is fine!!
End of Sept is still fine!

Doing decent, but pretty sure I will not be in an emotional state to take my test next week but given an extra few weeks I think I will be okay. I don't want to give up on applying this cycle because I have already submitted my primaries and sent them to many schools and my mcat score is literally the last thing to be sent in. I'm just hoping it all works out at this point. Thanks for your help!

Sorry for the loss of your family member. I am in the same situation as far as the MCAT goes (had to reschedule it for late August due to issues that arose). I will be submitting my primary this week (although I planned on submitting it in July) and will just be waiting on MCAT score to come back in late September. I am also concerned about it greatly hurting my chances of getting into an osteopathic medical school. Good luck on your MCAT and hope all goes well!

Sorry for your loss. Ive had a similar journey myself. Lost my sibling years ago. Was very hard to come off from that, finally gathered myself to take it, but only to have my grandmother fall terminally ill. Life happens. I still took the MCAT VERY late. I took it in January in the same cycle of applying. I know it sounds weird. But I am a very non-trad applicant and had great stats and ECs I believe, but what helped me was the motivation of wanting to do well on this beast for my sibling in that that was one of my last promises that I'll get into medical school.

As I type this, I am currently in an OMS-1 at my number one choice. If I can do it, you can too, and you will. Rock that exam. PM if you want to talk ever.
