http://www.pagingdr.co.nr/ is a Australian specific forum.

You may have more luck there.
Have you downloaded the IRG from AMSA?

I don't have much specific advice on any of the hospitals, but the interns at my hospital gave me gave me this advice.

1. Don't fill your preference form from most popular to least popular hospitals. By doing so, you can slide down the list and end up with your 10th preference. Instead, nominate a decent but not extremely popular hospital as your 4th or 5th preference, as a safety net.

2. Unless you really hated the hospital you were at while you were a student, it may be worthwhile to try and stay for internship. This means that you often know the consultants and other staff, and can take a lot of stress off your first year.

3. Don't go to RPA.

This thread needs to be bumped. Apparantly UNSW and USYD had their intern info night tonight. Does anyone have any news about how that went? I didn't go.

I'd also like to know what the changes are this year to allocations. I understand interviews will not be a part of this years allocation process, and we're divided into REGIONS, not HOSPITALS - and we're at the same region for two years, not one.

We have to put in our preferences by the 1st of June.

Any more info from anybody? I have the IRG - i wish it had average salaries and base salaries for all the hospitals.

wat about melbourne internship appplications? i'm feeling left out... Any news about the minimum entry requirements for the different hospitals?

I understand clinical schools are more obliged to take in their own students, but what does this actually mean?

I was under the impression that the IRG did in fact have base salaries for the hospitals?

For some, not all. The old guide had it for specific hospitals.

The couple thousand of dollars difference is not really important in the grand scheme of things - training opportunities and support for interns and residents are more important.

For example, Ezekiel20 mentioned not to go to RPA. This was due to the fact that in the past, they were known not to pay unrostered overtime due to the old culture of medicine that did not pay overtime. Support for interns and residents was said to be poor before. Whether this is still true or not remains to be seen.

Depends where you are applying...if you're applying through the Hunter, New England scheme...or even to a base hospital in NSW you do have an interview...I got a couple now set up.

RPA is extremely difficult to get as a Non local. I'd probably not put that even in my top 7 or 8 choices...but if you're a local Oz student it of course is a different ball game for you.

This question was asked directly to one of the RPA representatives at the Network Info night. You always get paid for overtime you do, apparantly, as that is the law. What has been happening at RPA is that interns are sometimes encouraged not to do overtime, particularly during quieter periods.

I put RPA as my 4th preference. It's one of those ones I really hope I dont get (I should be fine at 4th), but just used it to increase my chances of getting one of my top 2.
