hey guys, anyone have any knowledge about this? 65 seems to be the standard for many jobs, but since we would be relying largely on hand-eye coordination, i don't know if we would still be capable dentists once we pass the 60 mark

lol tbe dentist that i shadowed is still working at the fresh age of 73.

but he exercises regularly/diets and is usually a happy person which is probably why he's so healthy.

There was a dentist in Albermarle NC that was 92 years old before he retired last year. I don't even understand how he could do it, and to tell you the truth, I would not trust him working on my teeth.

Lol. Most of his patients probably didn't trust him either and bailed. That's why he could work for so long, he only saw two of his few remaining patients each week. Haha.

Not sure what the average retirement age is but I'd love to retire at 60 .. still gives me over 30 years of practice.

Lets put it this way,
If you own a practice, you can sell the practice whenever you feel you are ready to retire. You can be 55, 60, 75, 90.

Reason I say 90 is the pediotrician who I used to go to was prolly around 65 when I started going to him so hes prolly 80 now. And his practice is still open.

So in my opinion, there is no age for when a typical dentist or doctor will retire.

A friend of mine is retired at 28. His chain of practices rakes in the dough and he practically does nothing. I think 28 is a good retirement age to strive for.

i know a dentist who is still practicing at 75+. he works probably 15 hours a week and mainly works on old friends. i'd imagine a lot of dentists don't really "retire" but just reduce hours and work when they want. i think i've even heard a statistics that dentists are less able to retire at 65 than most people just due to lack of planning ahead, but i don't know where i heard that.

haha.. Dentists are workaholics!!! so most of them dont retired until they are dead....I don't know why i want to be one of those...lol
