You guys should check out the journal Dental Economics (two issues past). There's a huge survey of income and fees. The 90th percentile of general dentists in large cities makes over $400K. The 50th percentile was around $280K.

If you are a dentist working in private practice couldn't you just withold your salary, or even report incorrect earnings. Then you would not have to worry about losing money to taxes, assuming you are a partner.

Private practice accountants, lawyers, dentists, small business owners, and the self-employed have audit rates many, many times average for precisely that reason.
