Hi everyone,

As someone with an interest in psychiatry, I find myself browsing this forum a good bit. After reading several posts about psychiatry interviews and match statistics, I'm just curious to know about how many interviews a program conducts per position available. I read somewhere that a particular program had interviewed 5 applicants for each position this cycle - is that about average or does this number vary a lot? It seemed low to me, but I can't seem to find a better estimate anywhere.

Thanks for any replies!

That is low, but the answer depends upon where the program is. If you are a PD in a state with only one training program, 5 would probably work. If you are a PD in NYC, your interviews per slot should reflect the average number of interviews an average applicant goes to. I have heard 8 then 10, then 12, but the truth is that it depends a lot on the local competition.

I think this information can be gleaned from FREIDA for specific programs though I'm not sure how often programs update the number of interviews they conduct.

I always try to ask someone this when i go to interviews. One brand new program is interviewing 90 people for 3 spots. A well established popular program is interviewing 60 for 8. I bet the average is like 10 though, but that's a total guess.

According to some programs I was looking at on FRIEDA it looks like its closer to 12-14 per spot on average.
