Hey everyone,

I came across this post with the average cut off for the various residencies but can't seem to find it anymore! Do any of you have the link to it or have the latest update of the average scores?

Thanks loads.

The AAMC publishes a document called "Charting Outcomes in the Match" each year which is very useful

Hi.

I think this link is very helpful for that exact purpose. Enjoy!

Do you think that "reserach experience" is just verifiable time you spent working in a lab --even if this didnt result in a publication?

It seems like they categorized that differently from "abstracts, publications and presentations" --rather than stating research = publication, and only listing pubs in the data sheet.

Research experience is all about publications.

Go to any high profile residency program and look at the bio's of their residents. You'll almost always see a list of their publications.

Yes, I understand having your name in print is everything --that is a given.

However, my question still remains: Why the two categories? One tells if the applicant has "experience" the other states if the applicant has anything in print. If research always ='s publication, there would be no need for the experience category.

Thank you very much hon 🙂 Just took a look at it.. There are loads of people who've scored more than 245 on their first step this year (there's a thread abt the scores and experiences) and the scores of many users here make the scores on the site look rather mediocre!

Weird, aye? 🙂

Thanks again

Yeah, I know... sometimes I feel quite intimidated by the awesome scores on this board, but then again, 35,000 - 40,000 people sit for step 1 each year, so the people here only constitute a fraction of the total amount of students.

I like the link I posted, since it shows that even some IMG's with below mediocre scores have matched in really competitive fields (ENT, Ortho), so if they can do it, there's still a chance that I don't have to go into FM;-)

Well said! 🙂 Thanks again for sharing that link! Very informative indeed! 🙂

Hehehe. What do you hope to match to?

Oh and Aarhus, Denmark? I had an ex from there 🙂 He was telling me about how med students get paid in their clinical years 🙂

I'm not completely sure which way I wanna go, just want to know that everything's possible. Cardiology is my main goal right now, so maybe I don't even need a fantastic step 1 score (haven't received it yet, been waiting for 5 1/2 weeks now!).
What about You?

Funny that Your ex is from Denmark, I guess the world is small after all🙂
Actually everyone who is in school (not only med. students) get paid. It's only ~800US$ a month, but it's better than having to work all the time.

I wanted to say that I had an ex from Doha, Qatar, but that would be lying 🙄
However, I would like to go there once. Is it nice down there?

Awesome! 🙂 All the best hon

I'm thinking of peds/internal med or peds/EM. Not sure yet though.. I love kids and not being able to biologically pop em *giggles* kinda makes me attached to em. Weird. You want most what you can't have I guess 😀 So yeah, I want to build home for children around the world. Kinda looking at med cos I don't believe in treating the symptoms and not the root cause of it- want to bring about change there. 🙂

Well, he's an ex-ex. I was engaged to a Kuwaiti.. we're still in touch. Decided to part because his mother wanted me to give up my education and get married right away. 🙂 Well, then again, he was a tail of the royal (and I only came to find out after the freggin engagement!) The guy from Denmark works in a museum there 🙂

Qatar is right in the gulf and is very modern. We women don't necessarily have to cover up and walk around looking like ninjas- we have a choice. 🙂 Its amazing here- we have loads of foreigners and we welcome them with open arms. Oh and Her Highness Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser Al-Missned, the wife of our Emir (King) is an amazing lady! She's out there in the public bringing about loads of change, working at the grassroots level. 🙂 She's a firm believer on the importance of education and conceived 'Education City': http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_City .

If you're heading down here, let me know!

Masalama! ('Good bye' in arabic 🙂 )

Ps. All the best 😀 Hope you're score will be oh-so-high, you piss in your pants! *giggles*
