ok lets face it everyone....most people that post on sdn seem to have top scores/rank (umsle 240+ and comlex 650+). Im reaching out to all those average joes that have gotten interviews and where at? otherwise that growing list is getting me down.

Hey, I second this. Any more "normal" people like USIMG's with Mid-80's.

I'm in the middle-middle 50% of my class with average boards and I've received 10 interviews so far. My application is complete except for the dean's letter. I have heard from, not in order: MUSC, Dayton, Toledo, Scott&White, El Paso, MCG, Lexington, Alabama, LSU- Baton Rouge & LSU-Shreveport. Plus one rejection from Baptist transitional program in Alabama.

That being said, I really was surprised to hear anything prior to NOV. 1, except for the rejection that is 😉

Good luck ya'll.

hey...

I think I'm one of the more average applicants in terms of scores and grades, anyway. I know I'm in the middle 50% of my class, and my step 1 was 219/89.

I don't know if the interviews have some regional component (I applied to east coast programs, and it seems like a lot of interviews are in the midwest right now) or if it has to do with quality of programs and I aimed too high, or what, but I only have interviews from York Hospital and my home institution right now. But my application is not complete - I have not been able to get either of my SLORs online yet so I only have an Internal Medicine LOR right now (from a doctor at York, hm...). I'm assuming that is part of my problem. But it does suck. :-(

feel free to commiserate...

Yeah, well, I definitely agree with you! I'm either average or below average - I have only one interview right now! Only things left on eras to get are photo and MSPE. Not looking too good right now.... But I'm praying for the best! 201/Step 1. 229/Step 2. Top 5% of class - it's definitely my scores that make me avg/below avg!!!! 🙁

Well, I think a lot of us are in the "middle 50" of our classes. Although most people refer to it as middle 1/3.
I think it is kind of funny, because nobody that is in the top 50% refers to themselves as the middle 50%.
And most of us have fairly average Step I scores. A lot of it is regional, and a much larger part is that less than half of the programs have given out interviews yet. There are places that I have rotated at and gotten good evals that haven't given interviews.

I know the feeling... No interviews yet, either and I'm sure it's because none of my SLOR's are in. Although, one letter writer has assured me that it was sent. And the other writer (via the ED coordinator) also has assured me that it was sent. I have everything else in including Step 1 (223/90), Step 2 (239/97), even Step 2 CS, two letters (IM and Peds EM), and somewhere in the top 1/3rd of my class. However, I'm probably considered an average to below average applicant just for the fact that I'm a U.S. IMG. Yeah... not a good feeling as the interviews offered thread keeps growing.

I'm totally with you guys...don't consider myself a top candidate, was hoping after the big conference in New Orleans that interview offers would be pouring in this week and it hasn't happened. Nothing to do but obsessively check e-mail and wait. It especially hurts to see some of the schools I was really interested in passing me over.

Also, most of the interviews invites I have are from schools where the people who wrote my SLORs trained...I'm not sure if this is an ominous sign or just a sign that I'm analyzing everything a lot! Awaiting word from a lot of west coast schools (not on the invite thread yet); do they usually wait for Nov. 1?

I've gotten invites so far from UAB, LSU-NO, and LSU-Shreveport. My step 1 was so bad i won't post it, and my step 2 was 219. I'm probably right in the middle of my class GPA wise, but i was involved in a lot of other things during med school and I have research experience as well, so i hope those things pull me through the match. I rotated at UAB and had great comments from there so not surprising they were first to offer. I applied to 29 total programs and as of two days ago everything is posted to ERAS except for the Dean's Letter which won't be until 11/1.

I too am becoming weary of the silence. Right now i'm taking solace in the fact that i haven't had any rejections yet.

A story of encouragement for everyone: a buddy of mine who is a first year at Palmetto this year told me he had average board scores, average GPA, but he was a great guy and had a lot of extracurricular involvement- he ended up getting 19 interviews, which included programs like Ohio State, Emory, etc. Good luck everyone!

Unlike the interviews offerred thread, this thread is making me feel so much better. I too am still waiting on a slor. I've been offerred 2 em and 1 prelim interview. I'm hoping the silence is due to the lack of slor. My other letters are surgery, ped em, and em but all in israel. My scores are good (step 1 average, step 2 30 pts better) but I am US img... I've been pushing the letter writer to get in my slor already... I'm praying that once that letter is in the interviews will start rolling in... I hope...

Still no SLOR uploaded. :-( I'm beginning to wonder if my SLOR's have even been sent. I'm beginning to think that waiving my right to see them was a big mistake. If I had not waived my rights to see them, I could have picked them up from the letter writers. At least I'll know that they wrote it and I could FedEx them myself. I'm really thinking about pushing my letter writers now unwaived versions of my SLOR.

Good luck to us all, average and otherwise.

I don't know about the letter-processing rules for IMGs, but are you allowed to have your recommenders sign across the back of an envelope and pick them up yourself to FedEx? I waived as well and was in a similar situation: one of my recommenders had mailed it (twice) but there was no sign of it in my dean's office. I was told that if he sealed the envelope and signed across the back I could pick up a copy from him and bring it over myself (I was about to try that when fortunately the post came through after 4 weeks of this saga).

I agree with what zinjanthropus was (I think) trying to say, that waiving is the right thing to do.

Thank you to everyone who offered encouragement and advice. I'm happy and relieved to say that my letters have been uploaded and I received my first interview invites already. Again, best wishes to everyone.

It seems like some of the CA programs have given out interviews already (post nov 1st). Do they send invites in multiple batches or does it mean that if you haven't gotten an interview by now it means that you are pretty much rejected?

Is everyone felling better? I know there are those with Step 1 scores <500 who haven't received the invites they wanted. This is the place to vent... and scheme a way into them...... 😎 🙄

I have 5 invites, 2 rejections so far.

stats ( which are very impressive):
step 1 - 196
step 2 - 207
class rank - sucks
US med school

seeing as though i started the post...so far ive gotten 7 invites and 2 rejections. im still waiting to hear from the other 28 programs ive applied to. ive called a bunch and the majority still have about another week to two before they really start sending out interviews. some of those are in cali.

Did all you guys take Step 2 already? Is it generally recommended by EM programs?

REALLY?? I guess I've got mixed feelings about that. I would like them to send invites out now so I can get started. However, I'm glad you say this since I want more yet. Anymore info about if programs have/haven't send invites out yet?

I got the same answer when I contacted a couple of places I haven't heard from yet. 2 of them claimed to not have offered any yet, but will do so soon.
