Hello everyone. I am averaging 61% in uworld, with all questions done in timed, random and unused mode. I have 389 questions left. I am looking to get a score of about 220-225. I know I need to take an NBME to predict my score but do you guys think I can achieve my goal with the uworld average that I have now?

yes i def think u can.. i dont see why not.. take an nbme to see what areas u are weak in to help improve ur score even more.. good luck!

Hey thanks for the advice! I'm thinking about taking NBME 6 now and saving the more predictive ones (7, 11 and 12) for later. Is this a good idea or is NBME 6 outdated?

i took nbme 6 and found it hard.got a low score 390/195 -71% correct .but i have read FA only once and done uworld once (cum score 60) .
i think during early nbme 5 would be a better choice .will take it soon coz my moral really gone down after nbme 6.some Qs in nbme 6 were really wierd.

nbme 6 may predict low but it has got lot of good concepts.gud for practice.so its your choice

Thank you stepvictory! Good luck on your exam 🙂. I'm almost done with Uworld now so I guess I'll have to decide on which NBME to take soon. Regardless of which NBME I take, either of them should be able to accurately point out my weak areas, right?

if you want to find your weak areas do nbmes with extended feedback.and only nbme 6,7,11,12 have got it.u can see what question u marked wrong.so you can find answers to those Qs from FA,wiki or forums.
their assessments graphs i dint like coz some subjects overlap and dont give true picture.
good luck

I finished uworld with a 62% overall and I just took the first uworld self assessment and it predicted a 240 lol. I know these uworld self assessments overestimate, but how far off do you guys think my actual score will be?

Taking into account the over estimation, I'd say you can reach your goal of 220-225 and then some.

since were talking about NBME's here...i kind of have a dumb question.

So I have the tests and the answers to grade it...but how do I convert that into a projected 3 digit score for Step 1? Or is the only way to do that to take the official ones offered online?

Thanks!

@rollen05 offline nbmes are the pirated ones and the answer which u have, are made by students.so u cannot trust them.there is no way to calculate the scores of offline nbme.

the only right way of doing nbme exam is by doing them online.u will get a projected score plus performance assessment of different subjects and disciplines.u have to purchase online nbme forms

NBME 6 on 3/3/12 - 460/212
NBME 12 on 1/13/12 - 520/226

For some reason I found NBME 12 to be more difficult than NBME 6. I guess it was because the question stems were long and I found myself running out of time. For those of you who have taken the test recently and have taken NBME 12, how did it compare to your actual score?

I am having similar problems. I am stuck at 55% in Usmle world with 35% of the qbank left. It is my first time going through it and i am planning to do the questions atleast once more. All of my questions are being in Tutor/unused/random mode rather than systematic. My tentative test date is Feb 22nd. Suggestions?

I guess just keep at it. I do my questions in tutor mode as well, and if I'm wrong or had to guess a bit, I go to the section in FA and read through that a bit and make a few notes from the UWorld explanation. Then my FA copy has a bit more info and the writing part helps me remember for next time.

I wouldnt worry about your average too much, so long as you are learning the material. I think I had a 66% and got a 250.

Now my question is this since your averaging around 66% on about 2000 Q's that probably means that perhaps on the real USMLE exam you also probably had around 66% right in each block and overall. Does this mean that you only need to get 66% right in order to get a 250 on the real deal or is it that you just did much better on the real exam.

If you wanted a 250+ what would the percentage of q's you answered correctly have to be on the real exam because somepeople put it at 90% correct in order to get a 250+ but can someone really make that much of a leap on the real exam from 66% to 90%??
Is my thinking process right or flawed???

please weigh in on this someone

UWorld is much harder than the real thing. If you can get 66% on UWorld, you'll probably get a lot more than 66% on the real exam, but of course, it's impossible to predict the exact performance. Check out this table:

And the Clincal Review calculator... for some reason, I'm not allowed to post the link on this forum, but you can google "clinical review usmle score converter."

Agreed, there were alot of gimmie questions on the real thing. UW does not have a bunch of easy questions. So, overall UW is definately more difficult. But, again, the important thing is if you are learning from the questions, not your overall percentage.

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping too. My score on UWorld hasn't improved much in the time that I've been doing it, but I feel like I've been learning a lot... I figure my score isn't improving because they don't usually repeat the same topic in multiple questions, but I'm hoping I'll do better when I start on a different qbank.

I am hoping & thinking this too. I am learning from the questions and hopefully it gets better as I start completing more of the QBank.

I have also found there are some questions on UW there is no way I would get right - i.e., they were not covered in my courses and were not in outside resources (Rapid Review or GT for example) that I was studying with. Some seem pretty random or at least concepts I've never been exposed to. So I take those into account as Qs I just have to learn from even though I may miss them!
