Awards?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Don't worry not all of us have 10 amazing things to put down for all the sections of the APP.

Cheers! =)

All EC's are just icing on the cake... DAT and GPA trump all.

Ah okay, that's good to hear, whew. I have a ton of ECs, all of which I've been heavily involved in, and an average (not stellar tho) GPA. Hopefully my DATs will help me out, then!! (Am taking them soon~)

for award, like math awards and basketball award from high school counts?

I would not include high school awards, even if it means no awards.

That's like saying, will you include your college awards when you apply for a job after DSchool? You could, but I wouldn't. I think it will hurt you more than help, but that's just my .02

Well, I guess it depends on what kind of high school award you got.
At my school, we had an award for the student graduating with the highest grades (overall grades from gr. 9 to 12). If this is the case, I think it would definitely make you stand out.

But if it is like high school honour roll or something, I totally agree with you; it would have no impact on application at all....

are research grants considered awards?

It may make you stand out, but not in the positive light you are hoping for...

Even if you were valedictorian of your HS, i would not put that as an award. Dschools want to know what you have done since HS to prepare yourself for dschool. No HS stuff has any business being on a grad school application... we were all teenagers than... we are now adults, lets put adult accomplishments down.

Yes, if you were the author, i would definitely count a research grant an award.

Blank = better than something that they explicitly said not to include.

1 means you excelled in other things or spent your time volunteering, for example

2 means you didn't excel in other things and you can't follow directions
