If you apply to an away rotation, and that institution accepts you, are you then BOUND to follow through with that rotation? Or is the ultimate choice yours?

i.e. if I submit an application and get accepted, do I *HAVE* to do it, or can I still say "Thanks, but no thanks."

You can still say "Thanks, but no thanks." It's not the match. But if you turn them down, they may be less inclined to offer an interview...

That is very true I cancelled rotations at orlando and jacksonville 1-2 mo before rotations to stay in chicago and ended up with interview at orlando and shut out at jax., so it just depends. I would not recommend cancel of top choices.

So essentially, since away rotations are typically to top places (especially in competitive fields), you should really apply to only one away rotation at a time...

Right?

Agreed.

Or you can apply to a few but just place them in different time blocks i.e. BPEI in June, Wilmer in July, etc ,etc. This way they don't overlap and you dont have to cancel unless an emergency comes up.
