Aways--date conflicts

Hey, I want to do an away in October but the dates at my home institution are 10/5 to 10/30. September is 9/8-10/2 and November is 11/2-11/25, if that is pertinent. I'm exploring aways in Manhattan but finding that the dates conflict...like NYU is 9/28-10/25 and Cornell was something else. Is there no way around this? What do people usually do in this situation?

You can ask your home institution if you can make a few days up later in the year. That's what I'd do first. You can also ask the place you are visiting if they'll allow you to shift the rotation by a day or two. NYU was going to let me do that.

You should probably work on arranging this as quickly as possible, slots may be filled at this point.

I was originally planning on doing this, but the visiting institution wasn't willing to budge. I ended up having to do a bit of a scheduling rearrangement at my home school, and I'm taking the first block off so as not to have a date conflict.
