AZ accredited?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This question should start to die down once they finally graduate their first class this year.

I don't know who posted it or where, but one SDNer emailed CODA (Commission on Dental Accreditation) and got this response:

Jan 26th: E Mail from CODA concerning the accreditation of ASDOH:

"The Commission on Dental Accreditation met yesterday and considered the special focused site visit report for the dental education program sponsored by the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health in Mesa, AZ. The Commission adopted a resolution that changed the program's accreditation status from "initial accreditation intent to withdraw 1/2007" to "initial accreditation." The regularly scheduled pre-graduation site visit to the program will be conducted in April 2007. I'm please to report to you that the program is back on track to become fully-accredited."

Seems like a good thing.

Everybody I have spoken with (including those involved with ASDOH and Admins at rival schools) have assured me that this is just a formality that all schools must go through. In fact, the Asst Dean at a rival school told me personally not to worry about it. That due to the location of ASDOH and the growth in the marketplace, the ADA wants this school to succeed and it will do whatever it takes to make it happen.

I would agree that the ADA will do just about everything to help ASDOH succeed. This would include "stretching out the Acredidation process”. I have heard from a member of the accreditation committee that they are thinking of adding an “extra” semester to the 4th year student in order to complete their requirements. The biggest complaint that they have seen is not varied enough of a dental clinic. The school shows off the high tech clinic they have, but all the technology in the world can’t account for lack of a patient base. The assistant Dean left last year and is starting up the Glendale school because of the problems that have been seen from the inside.

Nova went through the same bs. I remember when they first opened in 1997 and when it came time to graduate the class of 2001 there was this big stink they were going to lose their accreditation. I don't know if this board was around back then, but I bet if you do a search something about it might come up

They did have problems, fixed them, and now they can look back and laugh.

I'm sure the same applies here so don't worry.
