Hi!

Do I have to live in AZ for exactly one year to become an AZ resident?

If I moved there in Jan. 07 then I will be applying in Jun 07 for enrollment Aug 08, then I will technically be an AZ resident by the time I enroll, NOT by the time I apply.

Do you think the schools go by the time of enrollment for judging residency status, OR by the time of application? For instance, will they not look at my file b/c I will have not lived in AZ for at least one year? By the time I apply in Jun 07 I will have lived in AZ for approx. 6 months only.

Thank you for your input!!!

As someone who has gone through the process at the U of A, let me share my experience:

The STATE of AZ requires you to change your driver's license, registration, etc. within 3 months and pretty much considers you a resident from there.

As for the U of A, that's a different story!

I moved to Tucson to get my PhD and to change my status after 5 years I had to show proof that I was claiming residency other than for academic purposes! I did this by showing my taxes, I bought a house, registered to vote, etc.

Now since the U of A Med School only interviews AZ residents and a few WICHE students, they have you fill out the same residency questionaire form that asks for driver's license info, voter registration, etc. How they determine if you are a resident having no previous AZ schooling (primary, secondary, college, etc.) I don't know.

Hope this helps!
