AZCOM and opinions?

I interviewed and was accepted to both. I chose CCOM but I had a struggle choosing between here and AZCOM. TUCOM will be a great school in the future but I'd wait till then. AZCOM is a school derived from an established osteopathic school and university. They have phenomenal board pass rates and the area was rather nice. My opinion, if you get into AZCOM go there!

As a first year student at AZCOM, I can't say enough about how great the school is. The professors and administration are all very accessible and friendly. In fact, last December when I was trying to decide b/w AZCOM and UNECOM, I left a message with the Dean's secretary at AZCOM. He called me back in 2 hr, long distance, and talked with me for 30 min. I was floored! Since starting school here nearly 8 weeks ago, I have been continually impressed with how the faculty coordinates their lectures to coincide with each other. We're learning about anemias in histology, biochemistry, intro to clinical medicine at the same time, but from different angles. They put in a lot of time doing this. Also, we get notes from the professors for every class - no scribe service to worry about.

Bottom line - I say go to AZCOM. You will not regret the decision.

Let me know if you come out for an interview.

I must second Phillip's accolaides of AZCOM. I too am an AZCOM student, and I believe choosing to come here was the best decision of my life (and I did have choices). In addition to Phillip's comments, we have a wonderfully diverse group of students. The faculty are truly available ("open door policy" here truly means "OPEN DOOR"). There is an early introduction into clinical practice with our clinical preceptors and as time goes on the Phoenix metroplex has numerous major medical centers for rotations. If your interested in rural medicine there are multiple sites within the state of Arizona to choose from there as well.

However, no matter where you decide to go, you will get out of any program exactly what you put into it. I can attest that the opportunities abound at AZCOM and it is up to you as an active partisipant in your education to take advantage of those opportunities.

Good luck
Sherry

AZCOM is shhweeet

interviewed there last week and i think i nailed and bombed at the same time. i hope it comes out to an acceptance. its my first choice; excellent school and facilities, happy students, ambulatory and hospital based clerkships. The heat and dust are ok, will take some getting used to.

Philip and Sherry's comments make AZCOM sound like a wonderful place to study! Could you please also comment specifically on the OMM component of the curriculum?
Also, I read that they wanted to receive secondaries by the beginning of November. Given that I didn't send my preliminary application to AACOM until a few weeks ago, do you think they'll even consider later applications?
