Hi Everyone. I was planning on starting a formal post-bacc in the Fall of 05. However, I just found out that my wife is pregnant so spending the money to be in school full time alond with books, classes, ect... just wont cut it.

Im going to need to work full-time here on out to be able to support my wife and baby.

I was thinking of just taking my prereqs at a local junior college. That way, I can take most of them at night, and the prices for classes, ect... wouldnt be too high.

Let me know if you guys think I have any other options, or if anyones been in the same situation as me.... Do medical schools look down on applicants that have taken their classes at the JC level? If so, do they take into consideration that I could not afford to go back to the University level, full time, and complete my prereqs that way?

Thanks.

Can Someone PLEAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEE give me their opinion

Well I was told by two pre-med advisors that taking pre-req's at a junior level is not a good idea. Medical school looks at that as a cop out. Its better to take them at a 4 year college. Congrats and Good Luck with the Baby!!!

The general consensus on SDN is that yes, adcoms do tend not to take courses at a JC seriously, although they may understand the situation you're in. While a formal post-bac may not be feasible at this time, you may want to consider taking the pre-reqs in a do-it-yourself format from a better recognized university (non-community.) Can you get into medical school with all JC level courses? Possibly, but it isn't usually recommended.

You can certainly take pre-reqs at a JC. Be sure you do well in them and you'll be fine. You're going to have to take some upper level courses to fulfill all of the prereqs, but save $$ on the ones you can.

Were you planning on a post bacc to fulfill prereqs or to bring up your GPA?

Congrats on the baby! That is fantastic news!!

How about a postbac that offers night classes? I can't remember the names off the top of my head, but I know there are post bac programs that have night classes.

bump! 👍 good luck and best wishes for the baby!

Harvard has night classes and is rather cheap ($700/class) I don't know if Boston is an option for you, but I worked full time while doing it and loved it.
