Can you apply for a residency if you have your DDS or DMD, but not a BS or BA? If so, would the lack of the bachelor degree be detrimental to your application? I'm asking this because it relates to maybe a few dental schools that have "advanced" programs (University of the Pacific's 5-year DDS program, 2 years undergrad, 3 years dental, but apparently no bachelor awarded).

Sorry I'm bumping this so late, but I thought someone would have some input by now.

I haven't checked specifically, but I am almost certain that you can. Dentistry (DDS/DMD) is an undergraduate degree.

I got into my residency just fine without a B.S.

The only requirement for post grad dental programs is an undergrad dental degree!

Bottom line... No. A seperate bachelor degree is not required.
