im a first year candian student studying at a canadian university at hte moment. im interested in applying to US dent schools in the future, when the time comes, but im a bit confused about admissions policies.

to clarify, canadian schools take applications from students beginning from their third year, sometimes even their second, given that students have appropriate pre reqs. bachelor's degree is not mandatory, although the % of students getting accepted without one is the exception, not the rule.

however just from a basic scan of hte Upenn dent website and several others, it seems the bachelor's degree IS mandatory. this is a shame for me, but more of a concern is that im applying to a (canadian) 4 year pharm program (for a total of 5 years including my first year). this is not the pharmD that they have in the states. does this mean i'll have to study for 5 years, completing my pharm degree before applying? this policy of "must have bachelor's degree" does not make much sense for me. if this really is the case, waht do you guys think about me taking a double major? i suppose as long as i have a bachelor's degree in something, this satisifes the US dent school's requirement?

thanks for your time

I'm not sure about Upenn. But I do know that not all US dental schools require you to have a Bachelors degree. For example, UoP and UCSF accepted my friend last year and he has no degree. Just as you explained Canadian dental schools prefer Bachelor degrees, so do US schools, but exceptions are made every year. Good luck.

It will really help in you favor if you get a bachelors degree.
