I already have 4 letters, but recently asked another doctor to write me one just in case. I thought she really liked me during the rotation, and truth be told, I thought she might write me the best letter. Anyway, I got back her evaluation for the rotation, and it says "oompa loompa's quiet demeanor belies an amazing mind." It goes on to comment on my various positive attributes. However, I am worried about being called "quiet," because other attendings have criticized me for it and I understand programs seek residents that are extroverted, confident, outspoken etc....which are traits I can possess, though not in abundant qualities like some of my peers.

Anyway, I'm thinking that I won't use her letter anymore. I'm worried it will contain similar references to my being quiet but actually really knowledgeable, etc. and I just really don't think those remarks will be helpful for me.

I'm 95% sure I'm doing the right thing, just wondered if anyone else had any thoughts. It totally sucks sometimes to be labeled as a "quiet" person in this field.
