At the ripe old age of 31 I'm finally a college student again! I've paid my tuition for the spring 2020 semester at my local community college and starting in spring 2021 I'll be using academic fresh start at UTSA to get a second bachelors. It's surreal, exciting, and kind of scary (downright terrifying), and I'm definitely not looking forward to explaining why I'm giving up a well paying career to my friends and family. I figure I'm going to eventually be in my late 30's whether I'm a doctor or a banker so I might as well try for happiness instead of living with a lifetime of regret.

I've been a lurker on SDN since 2008 and feel very fortunate to have read a ton of great stories and advice over the years, and I feel like it's finally my turn. It's going to be one hell of an uphill battle! Wish me luck!

Welcome! I am also a 10+ year SDN lurker, and I started full time postbac studies at age 30. 2.5 school years and one gap year later, and I’ll be matriculating to medical school next year. SDN has been an invaluable resource for me as I know it will be for you.

Remember to enjoy your journey along the way, because medical school will be there before you know it. Good luck and let me know if I can be of any assistance!

Best of luck to you!

I started going back to school 5-6 years ago and eventually gave up my well paying career, so understand the struggle. I ended up taking additional gap years and detours due to life circumstances but will be matriculating next year. Echoing the sentiment to embrace the excitement, fear, and whatever else along the way and don’t feel like you need to rush through the process.
