Hi everyone, I’m very concerned about a background check that med schools will conduct on you when you apply there. The thing is I have a couple of traffic tickets for over speeding and some for going on red light. Will med schools see all this? How will it affect my chances to get into med school? Thanks.

Even if it does come up it won’t matter. They aren’t doing a background check to ensure that you’ve never driven over the speed limit or double parked. Ask yourself, have you ever been caught doing something so egregiously terrible that it draws into question your ability to act with sound ethics and morals? If the answer is no then stop worrying about the background check.

Traffic violations will show up, which don’t matter as long as it’s not a misdemeanor.

Arguably, given that they are misdemeanors in some statee, it wouldn’t matter either. That is assuming you don’t have a bunch of traffic violations that show you probably shouldn’t be driving.

as long as you reported said misdemeanor on your apps 😉

If you didn't a school might send you an email asking about it. I've read threads on here of people having that happen (e.g. one didn't even know his speeding ticket was a misdemeanor)

Thank you everyone for replies. I was serious about this question. If you have tickets, it means you broke a law. Dur to some family circumstances I will be applying to only 4 med schools next cycle. So my chances are not that high to get in.

Sorry for saying this, but your reasoning still tells me that you are not mature enough to handle med school. You will have plenty of other things to worry about once in med school and beyond med school that might be too difficult emotionally for you to handle, if you are this worried about a silly ticket.
Some people are smart and can make all the grades, and accolades, research they can but they dont know anything about life in general.

Well, good luck to you.

I feel like its a waste of an application cycle when you restrict yourself to only 4 schools. Unless you have stellar stats.

Even with stellar stats it seems like a bit of a questionable decision. Like at that point just apply ED to your state school
OP If these circumstances are financial just apply for the fee assistance program

I agree but I have no choice. I’ll apply to local schools that I can commute to every day. I can’t move to a different place or live on campus because my husband doesn’t want to leave his job and move somewhere else because of my school. So I have to compromise on this...

Are you including DO schools in your area?

You will more than likely grow to resent your husband if you’re truly passionate about going into medicine. Good luck to you.

For real consider long distance if it comes to it. This is entirely selfish on his part.

Let me edit to add that I am also married and my husband was willing to sacrifice in many ways to get me through school. Same goes for residency.
