Background Check

Hello everyone,

I was emailed to consent to the typical criminal background check almost every school runs on accepted applicants. I am fortunate enough to have been accepted to multiple schools. As I understand it, certain schools will ask applicants to pay for these background checks. Will I have to do this multiple times, or will each school have access to the first background check once it is done and available?

Trying to spend as little as possible after this very costly cycle 🙁

I wasn’t asked to pay for mine, I think it’s included with AMCAS fees

Unfortunately they will be separate background checks that will each cost a different amount. I haven't heard about anyone being able to use one for more than one school.

Edit: If it was through AMCAS and not a third party, then it should only be once.

It was requested through certiphi, which I believe is through AMCAS.

Hmm interesting. I certainly hope so. I recently read on the AAMC website that it costs $71, which is why I wanted clarification.

"Applicants are responsible for the discounted cost of the preliminary background report, which is $71, plus any fees for international research"

When you submitted your primaries, it told you whether or not the school participates in the AMCAS Background Check. For those schools, you have essentially already paid for the background check through Certiphi. You would definitely know this because you would have received an email from Certphi upon your submission of your primary. Schools who do not participate can do their own background checks.

Right, I remember receiving those emails for nearly every school I added. Good to know that the fee is already covered through paying for my primary. Thank you!

This is something I would only have to fill out once, correct? Will it automatically be distributed to other participating schools I have been accepted/waitlisted at when they ask for it?
