Hello and ty in advance!

About a month ago, I agreed to 2 locum assignments in the midwest, for a total of 22 weeks starting in May. Today, I received a better offer.....almost same pay, far less acuity, almost ASC situation.

What are the ramifications of backing out of the first two gigs? I figure if the contracts are cancellable with 30 days notice, I'm free to do as I please. Can they sue me? Will those agencies refuse to ever work with me again? Is this considered a normal and standard situation?

It is really against my nature to back out, but I believe the new offer is a much better fit for me. How would you proceed?

Ur contract has 30 days clause. You are more than 60 days out. You are fine

Just remember they can terminate you on 30 days notice also. So 22 weeks assignment isn’t guaranteed either. Although if you have May start date and the peak locums summer months. The chances of them terminating you early are slim since there is always a desperate need for locums for summer vacation months up to Labor Day.

They can cancel you and you can cancel them. Just follow your contract terms.

I take a different opinion than others on this.

22 weeks is a ton of time you committed to. You should be prepared to never work with the other groups again if you cancel all that time. I'd advise against it because the other ASC gig could dry up and then you'd be left with 3 possible jobs exhausted. Don't back out of one or both if you can avoid it, and suck it up for the time being. Then don't overschedule yourself in the future.

This is a common mistake locums people make starting out. You overcommit then a new hot thing comes along and you yearn for more. Best to finish out a commitment then move on to the next imo

I would say the same thing
But you are pretty much gurantee Memorial Day to Labor Day for locums work. Everyone wants summer weeks off

Just like places scramble for spring breaks (March for Florida)

I agree with this as well. You could always go for the middle ground, and cancel 1/3 to 1/2 of those weeks that are the furthest out in terms of timeline
