so i had a huge chemistry midterm last week. My parents called me early in the morning before my test and told me to come home because my grandma was about to go. I decided just to stay and take the test and go home after. Terrible decision. I thought i'd be okay to take it, but completely bombed it. Definitely was not in the right mindset for the test, and to be honest i found myself just filling in answers because i just wanted to get home to my family. What should i do, i'm not doing very hot right now, I'm looking at a C+, maybe a B if i do really well on the next midterm/final. I'm just extremely depressed right now and need advice

You could withdraw, as you have a decent reason to.
Or you could stay and study enough to boost the grade into the B zone.

Drop out of school. Get a job. Drink a lot of beer. Love a woman. Lose a woman. Then go back to school and you'll get A's across the board.

Relax, you have two options here: do your best and try not to get any more C's or take a W. I can tell you that I had bad grades my first year of undergrad including a D and a couple C's. I came back from that so I'm pretty sure you can overcome a C+. On the other hand, if you do decide to take the W it won't really be a problem since you had a family illness and I can't see anyone holding that against you.

Well I've never gotten any C's in undergrad yet, but this is the first time I think I might get a C+ in a pre-req. The problem is I'm a sophomore right now, and havn't started my orgo sequence yet so withdrawing from this class would put me back. I don't know I'm just feeling a little stressed right now.

A couple C's are manageable, its all about your accum GPA and sGPA. Retake if your that worried. I have 3 C's, and still have a sGPA of 3.6 and am not worried. If you have tons of A's in much harder classes who cares.

I presume this is a 1st C, if that is the case than that is manageable.

Don't drop it man, a W is way worse than a C. But neither one will keep you out of med school. If it makes you feel any better, I had a semester of C's and D's from when I was younger and didn't care, and I've had multiple interview invites and have already been accepted. Do your best. But seriously, chill.

How do you figure this? Ws have no effect on your gpa while cs do?

OP, Protect your GPA it is much harder to fix once it is damaged. Withdraw and retake it once you are ready. A few Ws won't even raise an eyebrow of the Adcoms while 5 or 6 need a good explanation. Don't worry about it withdraw and take care of yourself. Life happens.

Then you need to choose what's more important to you: get a C or take organic chemistry a semester late. There's no "right" answer to that.

If you feel you can get a B, just take it. If it's your first and only C, it's not too bad. If this will be your first or second W, this is a lot better than a C.

thanks so much for the support and replies everyone. Yeah its my first C but she hasn't curved it yet, and i still have two more tests and a final, along with 25% hw/quiz grades that I'm getting a >95% currently. I don't know, i have a ~3.5, and ~3.58 sGPA right now, i'm only a sophomore with 35 credit hours to if that makes a difference. I'll try to chill, it makes me feel better when the honest SDNers come on here and are honest about getting a C or gasp B, instead of saying I have a 3.98.

no withdrawing is better if you feeling you getting an awful grade. Def saves our gpa from tanking, and trying to recover is more stressful.

How is a W "way worse" than a C? I have a couple W's due to unforeseen, out of my control circumstances and am doing fine on the interview trail.

If you can explain it during your interviews, you should be fine.

Is an A possible? I remember getting a D in my first midterm, and an A+ on my second one, allowing for the possibility for an A at the end. I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a lot of confidence, because it was a grueling, grueling time in my life...
