SO I got accepted into baylor college of medicine for next year, but my grades this semester haven't been too hot. Like I might get a couple B- and a C+. however, these will not be in science classes...the B- will be in liberal arts classes and the C+ will be in a foreign language. So these are not med school pre-reqs or anything. Do you guys think I might be in trouble with the med school? My overall GPA will still be above their required minimum, and my science GPA should still be fine.

I think you are fine, unless your acceptance letter says no C's. Got lazy after a few acceptances early in the fall semester and got a 2.7, which included a C, B-, and a W. Decided to do better my final semester and got a 3.7. Med school never mentioned it.

yeah the letter just had the generic "maintain high academic standards" kind of thing. Not sure what to make of that.

yeah all that means is not to do anything that would land you in academic probation land at your uni if you weren't graduating otherwise. on that same note, make sure you graduate?

Thanks guys. I was hoping it wouldn't be a big deal, especially cause these aren't really "med-school relevant" classes.

The school I'm going to (WVU school of medicine) says that it is required you have a satisfactory performance which is defined as having grades consistent with your previous semesters, regardless of what classes you take.

Your's sounds less specific though and it doesn't sound like it's that big of a deal, especially if it's not in your sciences classes.

Have you heard of anyone getting into trouble with WVU for that?

Well I don't know anyone who got into WVU/goes to WVU so I don't know, and they said that they "may" withdraw an acceptance whose performance they feel is unsatisfactory so it's not necessarily set in stone. Imo it's a very gray line deciding what's satisfactory and unsatisfactory.

What was your GPA this semester vs. cGPA?

I mean...as long as you didn't slack off and tried your best in those classes you can explain to the med school if they ask you why you had a lower GPA this semester.

Probably a 3.0 - 3.1 ish this semester compared to 3.78 cumulative a couple semesters ago when I applied. And obviously I did slack off, lol. Still, my cGPA should be reasonable even after this...like a 3.63-64.

That's why I'm glad my acceptance came in the day AFTER my last final b/c I know my GPA would've taken a sharp downward turn.

Honestly, I don't think they'll ask/care. Just come up with a reason just in case they do. I don't think they would not let you go to their school just b/c you got a C in a foreign language.

I'm totally slacking off and will be happy with a C although I'm still in the A range at the moment. It's my only one class this term which is actually on the required course list at my school.
