So im averaging around a 25 on my MCAT because my verbal will not go higher than a 6. Im scoring fine on PS and BS. If i got a 25 on the MCAT, would I be competitive for DO schools? (3.6 cGPA 3.75 sGPA)

Alright cool. Can I get a second opinion?

You wouldn't be competitive at most schools if you got a 6 in verbal, unless you had great ECs or ties or something to that effect. You would have to apply to a lot of schools and early. That being said, you should try your hardest to improve your score and shoot for 30+ on your practice tests. I found the real MCAT to be harder than the practice FLs. Also, the pool of applicants are showing increasingly higher MCAT scores than previous years and I wouldn't be surprised if the average for all schools was 28+ in the next few years.

Some, but not all; you wouldn't get into mine

*sigh* Ok. Looks like I got a long way to go

the 25 isn't a problem, the verbal will be.

I think it's the opposite. I have a higher overall and a 6 in VR and im getting interviews.... but we will see about acceptances haha.

I have a friend whose African American, had a 3.5 cgpa/3.3+ sgpa (I think, slightly lower than his cumulative)/25 and he didn't get in this cycle.

How many/which schools did he apply to?

How many/which schools did he apply to?

I believe he applied very MD heavy (he regrets doing that, reapplying, taking a year off. Doing a masters at a reputable university).

3 DOs: UMNDNJ, PCOM, and one other.
MDs: Drexel and others.

He was a strong applicant, his MCAT was balanced but low. He's retaking and I hope he's able to do better because he is a gifted student (got As in some incredibly hard classes).

I did; however, meet someone new this summer whose also African American and he took 4 years off after undergrad with 4 years of experience in lab work, research publications, and being a certified EMT. I'm not sure about his stats but I think he took a few years off because of his financial situation. Now he is attending a MS/MD program this upcoming fall.

Probably could have gotten into the D.O schools if he got a 3.7 + cumulative GPA and 3.6 + science.

With that score you would be competitive. Maybe not for all schools but you will be competitive for a school. Apply to many and apply broad and you will be safe. Also who knows you might get a 27 or 28 back and then your set for pretty much any school!

ALRIGHT GUYS IM GONNA GO HARD THESE NEXT 3 WEEKS!!!!! IM GONNA KILL THIS THING!!!!!! LEEEROOOOOYYYYYYYY JEENNNNNNNKINNNNNNNSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11 (runs to go study)

25 may have made it but the 6 in verbal is a red flag most schools need to see at least an 8 in each section

False, not for DO schools anyway

What does his race have to do with this? I have been plugging away at this for several years now and I'm pretty confident this is irrelevant. Why mention it? The reality is, though most don't like to admit it, once you receive a II, it is your slot to lose.

It is relevant look at their average scores compared to my race, Asian. Significantly lower, making my friend not getting in astonishing tbh.

My Overall GPA was 3.52, Science 3.6, MCAT 20,23,23.
Tennessee Resident.
Biology degree. Had a year of ER scribe experience and year of Cardiology MA experience.
Interviewed 10/12 and accepted 11/12. Deferred until class of 2018.

I don't even think my MCAT was brought up at all. More focused on why I wanted to become a physician. I was accepted to multiple schools. So it is possible.

Ummmm everything. You do realize that it's much easier for a black or a hispanic to get into med school than an Asian or a white right ? If you're Native American then you're basically in any D.O school as long as you get a 23 + on your MCAT. I know two blacks who got into decent M.D schools with just a 26 on their MCATs. As Malcolm in the Middle would put it, LIFE IS UNFAAAAAAIIIIRRRRRRR
