So I just had an interview. Not sure whether it was good, bad or mediocre. The two interviewers noticed I was visibly nervous and told me to calm down and relax. I'm not sure how the interview went. Anyone have an interview they viewed as mediocre or crappy and still get in? lol.

well if the interviewers tried to calm you down, you must have been really nervous....

Did they tell you to relax before the interview actually started? Or did they take time during the middle of the interview to pause and give you a minute to calm down?

I think there is a difference....

Well, poor interviews can be deal-breakers. However, I imagine that adcoms evaluate everything together during the committee meeting.

That said, it's darn near impossible to be objective about your own interview experience. There was one where I thought I did horrible and ended up getting accepted. I think just about everyone has a sympathetic response to these things. It's a big deal. Anyway, since you don't really know much else, I'd just try to forget about it, do something fun while you are waiting the outcome. What's done is done.

For future interviews, remember to take deep belly breaths and just relax into yourself. Don't over-rehearse beforehand; it can make you more nervous. Get comfortable with how you'd approach your answers. Let go of the self-critic persona during the interview. Take a few breaths before you speak. Most often interviewers are more interested in how you answer than the specifics of your answer.

I wouldn't worry about it. I overanalyzed my DCOM interview, and freaked out about blowing it but ended up getting in. Then, I thought my KCOM interview went really well, but ended up getting rejected. All you can do is go in there and be yourself. After that, if they don't think you're right for the school, then obviously it's not meant to be. Don't worry about it. It's normal to analyze and get freaked out afterwards.

I was very nervous during my first interview and it was very obvious. It didn't help that they were asking me ethical questions and I felt that my answers were pretty controversial. I apologized for being so nervous in the middle of the interview and they replied, "We're probably more nervous than you." and just told me to answer honestly even if my answers were controversial. I was accepted and that is actually one of the reasons why I love that school so much. I don't think being nervous is necessarily a deal breaker but it could be given the circumstances and particular interviewer. I wouldn't worry about it, since there is nothing you can do about it now.

I had an allergy attack the night before and had to take benadril. I couldn't keep my eyes open and had terrible dry mouth. I had to drink about 5 of the bottles of water they supplied (in the middle of my responses mostly) b/c I couldn't talk as my tough was stuck to the roof of my mouth. Both of the interviewers made me feel comfortable, and I ended up getting in!!!!!

As far as I can tell, there is virtually no correlation with perceived interview performance and actual success. What's done is done. If things don't work out then strategerize some ways to improve your performance next time around. Until then, take a deep breath and chill.

Yes I had a pretty stressfull "mediocre" interview at KCUMB and I got in.

they told me to not worry and relax right before we started the interview. im not sure what a "bad" interview is like, so i think i either killed the interview or bombed it....who knows. i guess i'll find out when i hear back. i ****in hate myself for rambling like a *****. haha

Well, I underwent a psychological evaluation (that's what it seemed like) at a particular mid-west school. After that, I was extremely turned off...it didn't help that the other interviewer I met with at that school had the personality of a dead tree.

But, if you were merely nervous, I wouldn't worry about it.
