i was doing destroyer and came across one problem

it just adds CH3COOOH so i just assumed it will be epoxide

but it turns out to be a Baeyer Villiger

to distinguish Baeyer-V, the reactant should have any of these COOH, COH, or ketone?

if the reactant simply has alkene, adding CH3COOOH becomes epoxide?

Yes. Alkene with a peoxy acid becomes epoxide. Ketone witb peroxy acid, is a Bayer-Villiger, where you make an Ester. Hope this helps.

I wouldnt worry about this too much, this is part of Romano's crazy advanced rxns that you wont see on the real DAT. I haven't heard of anyone who had this on the real exam.
