So, I'm starting 3rd year this week, and I feel like I'm getting too old to be carrying around a backpack (the one I have now is falling apart anyway). Just wondering if anyone has suggestions for a good bag to the hospital each day (or at least share what you're currently using).

When I saw this thread, I thought it was a parody of all the other "MS1 backpack?" thread on the other forum...

Is this is a serious post or a joke? Because it's hilarious as a joke, but even funnier if serious.

I'm not sure why you would want to bring a backpack during 3rd year, unless I guess you want to bring books. Personally, if the books aren't already on my PDA or iphone or if they can't fit in my white coat pockets then I don't bring them. Lockers are sparse for med students around these parts so I don't want to get stuff stolen.

Thy white coat pockets be thy backpack. End of.

umm...does this really matter? you're just gonna go throw it in the on-call room and leave it there. i use a messenger bag and throw in my step up and stuff in there just in case there's down time.

I got a really nice messenger bag that I carry around and throw in the call room... and grab it during any downtime to study a little.

I got a nice briefcase-esque bag - not so nice that someone would want to lift it from the oncall room, but large enough to fit my white coat while I'm on the train as well as my lunch, books, papers, etc.

If you're a guy, you look silly wearing a tie and a backpack. Messenger bag is OK, but I'd go with something a little bit more professional. Still, don't make it so nice that people will covet it.
