Please delete if completely not relevant, but I am wondering if any of the SDN psych homies have any bag recommendations? Y'all seem to have your **** together...

We recently had another kiddo, and my trusty timbuk2 messenger bag is kinda awkward when I am carrying a car seat, the daily toddler art, soiled clothes, bottle bag, wrangling my busy three year old, etc. into the house and work.

OMG...completely relevant. That's what we're here for, too!

You sound like my old graduate school days...Guess what? I used a North Face Backpack (returned to undergrad days!). There was a place for my laptop, so I was set! I also have my kids & went to grad school in NYC so we use public transport, everywhere...(basically, all four Boroughs...only went to Staten Island once to run NYC Marathon....ha!) My Breastpump and Kids' bottle bags were shoulder straps, so this was easiest.

See images. Sporty, right?

Later, when I went to internship (or need to dress to impress), and not look bulky, I went back to a slim shoulder bag for myself (which could be doubled up, on one shoulder with Breastpump bag, bc my bag was more slender...and literally, the computer bag you pay a bit extra when you purchase a laptop! It was clean & freshly, brand new, so made me look & feel sharp).

Be comfortable, forget high style for a while, and it'll work.

I don’t have any kiddos but I LOVE my North Face Homestead Roadtripper backpack and was amazing for packing stuff to the hospital before I got a WFH gig.

It has a secure and padded laptop slot built in and it’s stuff sack styled so it fits a bunch of stuff. The material is slick and durable (limited lifetime warranty) so you could hose it off or machine wash easily. It also has hooks and straps for exterior packing/securing overflow options.

Only downside is that there’s only one outside zipper pocket (with a built in inner zippered pouch so no organizational system for loose things like pens) and it’s not professional looking but IDGAF about that.

I used a briefcase before having to take my two kids to school. That's when I transitioned to this:

Easier to use while pushing the stroller while still looking professional.

Seconding this. I used a laptop bag until my kiddo was born during grad school and then made the switch to a North Face daypack that I found at a REI garage sale. So many pockets for carrying all of the kid and grad school related things.

I have a messenger bag I still use and an amazon basics laptop backpack for when I need to carry more gear. I also have a government approved bag that HBPC gave me. I find it too bulky and annoying to carry so it sits in the trunk of my car. For an all in one, there are convertible messenger bags that can also be carried as backpacks. Might be a good option for you.

I'd also love any non-kid relevant laptop bag recommendations. My old bag is starting to show its age.

Thirding the North Face backpack as all-purpose base bag.

I have strong bag opinions re: fancy work laptop bag, diaper bag, in-bag organizational strategies, etc., but they could easily identify me at my place of employment so feel free to DM for a free more detailed bag consult. One consult per person, while patience lasts.

Just a general cheap backpack (with lunchbox inside) for pretty much everything unless I need to be perceived as a grown up. Then I'll dust of the leather laptop messenger bag. Got em both at the local outlet mall on sale black friday deals. Nordstrom Rack has some good deals periodically on brand name bags.

If you want a life proof bag, I'd recommend the North Face Kaban (1.0 or 2.0, doesn't really matter. I have the 1.0). I've used it as my bag from undergrad to present (about 7 years now). I've used it for hiking, fishing, gym bag, work bag, travel bag, makeshift umbrella, day bag, and as a sled a few times. Weather and shenanigans proof. Not a frayed thread, hole, or tear to be had. And it looks fairly stylish.

27L bag and 2 pounds. So it can store a lot and not break your back. Great for storing clothes, diapers, bottles, and cleans easily.
