I may be doing research over the summer at another institution for 5-6 weeks, but I'm concerned about being able to balance it with board prep. From what I vaguely recall, summer research hours are usually 40-50 hours a week.

I estimate that it'll take me 3-4 hours a day to do all of my reviews, which would be tough, but doable.

What do you guys think?

Are you taking step 1 this summer or next summer? If you are taking it this summer then I'd say forgo research altogether, step 1 is way more important. If next summer, then I would say you should definitely have time to do both. Since you have a year before step 1 in this scenario then I would prioritize research over getting reviews done (maybe cut down the daily review number temporarily?).

I'm taking it in 2021, so over a year from now. I guess I could cut down on the number of new cards I do per day, but I really would like to finish Zanki by the date I set for myself.

I guess the good thing is that I wake up extremely early (don't ask me why lol), so I can knock out the majority of them before I even have to start working.

You're worrying too much about this. I had all zanki matured never working more than 2-3 hours/day the summer before. Research won't get in the way of that.

Also, many research roles include large amounts of downtime during the day, so you can utilize those times to study as well. Definitely take the research opportunity.

This helps, thank you!
