Guys,

I'm not trying to offend anyone here. However, I'm interesting in ballpointpen thread "don't go to WVSOM". Could anyone elaborate on this matter? I heard some positive as well as negative things about the school. I'm thinking about going there this Fall.

One negative thing that I heard about WVSOM is clinical rotation. One student at WVSOM told me that the program is not organized very well. You're on your own for electives.

This is a forum so people can exchange their ideas.
Thanks

The clinical rotations are one of the reasons I went here. You have to do some leg-work on your own but they are very strong from what I've heard from the 3rd and 4th years who came into town recently, and I LOVE the freedom to do my electives anywhere I choose. Take any don't go to school "X" threads with a grain of salt. Plus, the class has been a little testy every since Neuro and Path, which were tough courses.

Second: Then let me buy you a round. "

Wheres ball-pointpen?....I love how they post 1 thread bashing their school but dont offer and reasons????????? 👎

Hey gang,

Pretty much it's this.

Our school is in the process of undergoing a major expansion. We doubled the class size for next year. We built a huge new building for classrooms. We're going to be building a huge center for OSCE testing.

All of this costs money so tuition goes up. All of this requires change and people are inherently resistant to change. Admissions ramps up to accomidate. People are worried the family feel of the school will be lost. Some people don't like our acedemic dean. He's never done anything mean to me personally. In fact, the school hasn't done anything mean to me personally. Come to think of it, they've actually been pretty darn supportive of me throughout my career here so far. Some people talk negatively about Problem Based Learning but sitting here reviewing for boards, I realize, I know ALOT and I can interpret lab tests in my sleep. It's working for me and it has been a positive experience for me personally. I find you get out of it what you put into it. I hope my Step I COMLEX score reflects this. Been studying for 7 months now.

Yes, you are on your own your fourth year for your electives. But guess what! I'll pick up the phone and call people. 🙂 You almost never get turned down unless they are going on vacation! It maybe a bit tricky to get scheduling down but if you plan ahead it isn't too bad. I might change my tune 4th year but so far for 3rd, statewide campus seems pretty snazzy. Got my urology and otolaryngology electives scheduled already! Just gotta hand them into clin ed.

Face it, every med school has problems. People are going to gripe about it. That's human nature. That ballpointpen guy/gal? If he/she wants to get on and post crap about the school, that's his/her opinion and they are entitled to it.

Me? I'm along for the ride. I pay my $42,000 bucks a year and learn as much as I can and have as much fun as I can doing so. If someone does happen to blatantly piss in my cheerios, it'll be known. However, I'll post behind my real name, just like I have for....geez, how long have I been here at SDN. Heck, half of the students who interview at WVSOM mention my website now. Dang, I have nowhere to hide! Now that's having some stones!

Much love,
Richie

Right now, looking at Urology as my top choice.

I have Dermatology, Otolaryngology, Anesthesiology and Internal Medicine in my differential still. Granted, this may all change during my 3rd year as I am exposed to more. I worked around urologists for 2 years before I went to medical school and it seemed like a fun field. A little bit of surgery, a little bit of medicine...seemed like a nice balance!

I am in an undergrad major that utilizes PBL group learning and I feel the same thing as a lot of people. We all hate it while we are doing it...just seems frustrating but it really does wind up working... which is probably why there is a huge movement towards it.

Had I came to SDN before my interview, I would have mentioned your website - and that other classmate of yours who has that funny avatar with the easter rabbit. 🙂

Yeah, WVSOM is a pretty neat school.

I think he was a little upset over the whole "Don't go to LECOM" thread - which was just getting out of control.

LECOM is a fine place and I have met a few physicians who graduated from there and loved it a great deal. I for one, was very well treated there during my interview.

I'm sure you realize there is a reason that school will treat you well at an interview....
