I'll give you my background really quick: Applied to dental school for the '05 cycle, didn't get in anywhere, freaked out, decided to apply for masters at the last second, wasn't feeling confident about getting into a masters either.

ok, now you're caught up.
After applying really late to georgetown, nova, barry, boston, and umiami for biomedical/medical science masters...i hadn't heard from any of the schools in like 2 months. Then on thursday nite i got an acceptance from Barry University's Master of Science in Biomedical Science program. I was pleasantly surprised. Then i was accepted to Boston University's Master of Arts in Medical Sciences on the Oral Health Track....really really surprised. I'm from South florida, so Barry is much closer...only like an hour away. Is there a difference in the programs and would a dental school look favorably upon one more than the other? I know I have to get amazing grades either way, so does it really matter?

Thanks for reading and hopefully replying!

I'll simplify my question...do you think the name of Boston University is going to look better to a potential dental school than the name of Barry University which isn't as well known? assuming i get good grades of course

I was in a similar position last year, with the difference that i had a choice between BU and Wash U. I live an hour away from BU and had seen the school many times, but had never been to St. Louis before. It took me couple weeks of debate with myself and parents till i finally picked Wash U for 3 reasons:

1. very flexible program. i could pretty much do what i wanted (and did)

2. BU's program is inside the medical school. the transcript will come from BU med school. I did not want to give dental schools the wrong impression that dental school is my back up plan when they see a transcript from a med school and that the BU's program is mainly designed for those who want to get into med school.

3. Cost: Wash U would be 1/3 of the cost for me (and better reputation). BU also seems to really care about making the students pay for things. Even if you work hard and finish your masters at BU in 2 semesters, you still have to pay for the summer sessions 1 & 2 (even though you may not even be taking classes there) since the program is "4 semesters".

You should really see what your specific preferences are. and finally, a Masters is a Masters, a high GPA from any school can always stand out.
