Hi guys! I wanted to ask if adcoms look down on bartenders. I was going to add it to my resume when applying to medical school! I already do lots of volunteer work such as hospice, volunteer EMS, and I go on medical mission trips. I am also an officer for a medical related club and I plan on doing undergraduate research for the last two semesters before graduating, so bartending is not the only thing on my resume. I have also been keeping my GPA high. Any opinions on this?

It's a job that is reputed to require people skills and provides good tips. I'm sure that there's an adcomm or two out there who have entered a bar at some point in their life, so I wouldn't worry that there's a red flag on your horizon if you mention it on your application.

ADcoms dont pay your bills and should not look down on you having legitimate employment. Your bartending experience might help you with your interview. I would concentrate on making a solid application, starting with solid GPA and MCATs. Best wishes and good luck

I can think of at least three Adcom colleagues of mine who would auto-accept you!

I did it (among other roles in a restaurant) and during one interview, I was asked about my experience and what my favorite drink to make was. They seemed pretty positive about the experience. It is a great way to learn how to talk to people.
