Hey guys-
If I’m getting average scores (60% correct, 45th percentile) on my first pass of UWorld step 3, am I ok if I only finish, say half of the practice questions?
I’m obviously just trying to pass the exam. Thanks

No one can tell you that for certain. I've seen all spectrums on here. I know people who's done half the questions, your scores aren't great. I'd speed up the questions (there's not as too much to the explanations as with Step 1 where you worshipped the text). Do 120/day, wrap it up, watch some videos, and go take the exam.

I think you're OK if you're a clinician and you do the CCS cases (I am a pathology resident). I ended up with 60% correct on the whole qbank and passed (though not by much). So, so much of the test would have been trivially easy if I were a clinician. I would call it a test not of specific content, but of general medical knowledge.

Depends how much your specialty engages the material. If you're IM/FM most of your intern year will have prepared you for the exam and you only need a couple hundred questions and becoming familiar with the clinical cases to round it out. At least as a DO, I was super nervous because I only did like 20% of my QBank yet my score was 100 pts higher than my Level 2 board exam.

As a senior resident I’m terrified to take level 3. Mind if I ask what score range that bump placed you?

Congrats on the score amigo!

You'll be fine. I did maybe 15 CCS cases on UWorld and only got through about 60% of the qbank and my specialty is surgical so I had very little neuro/psych/endo/rheum exposure going into the exam. I still passed.

Here's a good CCS diagnostic flowsheet that I wrote the moment I sat down on day 2 (before even starting the MC section). Came in clutch for all but 1 case.

What are you afraid of, exactly?

I think I did about two thirds of them in that scenario and I did fine.

That said, it's probably a bit dependent on your specialty and how far out from med school you are. If you're a PGY5 orthopedist who hasn't thought about any of this stuff in half a decade, maybe study a bit more in depth than the PGY1 FM/EM guys.
