I was looking at getting my basic uniform items (HPSP Army) and was wondering what exactly did I needed to get.

Thanks!

Note: all accessories are velcro, unless otherwise specified.

ACU tops and pants
US Army tape
Name tape
2LT rank for ACU
AMEDD patch
American flag patch (non-IR, non-subdued)
Black beret
2LT rank (pin-on, nonsubdued)
Tan desert boots (no zipper, must be at least 6" boots)

The Army and Air Force share AAFES (www.aafes.com), which would be our NEX equivalent, and has a uniform builder that walks you through most of what you need.

I am not familiar with acuarmy.com, but I suppose it would work. I generally order all of my uniforms or other items through AAFES, Ranger Joe, or US Cavalry. Ranger Joe has good preshaved/shaped berets (still require some degree of shaving and shaping, but not as much as the standard uniform ones from AAFES).

I tried accessing the AAFES site but it doesn't take my info to set up an account, do I need to get my ID card first in order to be put into the system?

Thanks

I was able to access AAFES years before I got my CAC. Pretty sure it's just DEERS.
So then how do I make sure I am in the DEERS network so I can go online to AAFES?

I'm trying to find the correct AMEDD and flag velcro patches and I'm not sure which ones to get from this site.

IF someone could show me that would be great. Thanks!

I was asked to wear my Class A's for a school event next month and have some questions regarding ribbons:

I finished OBLC last year and was told by the cadre that we are now entitled to wear the 'three ribbons everyone in the army wears due to the War on Terror and current campaigns'. Any clue as to which ones they were refering to?

Also, when I looked at the Uniform Regulations, it said that graduates of Basic Courses must be at their next unit for something like 30 or 45 days before wearing army-wide or unit ribbons. Based on this, I don't think the cadre were correct regarding letting us wear any ribbons since we are just HSPS students still in school...

Any thoughts?

The three ribbons you get for breathing fine, Army air are the Army Service Ribbon, the National Defense Ribbon, and the Global War on Terror Ribbon. I have also gotten some conflicting reports, but the general consensus seems to be that you can wear them on your As if you meet the requirements for them (30+ days of active duty since 9/11/01). Most of the other students I see on interviews are wearing the ribbons with their uniforms, so I'd say its just fine (and they are afixed to mine for my interviews these next two days).

Question... does anyone know of which ribbons would carry over from the Marine Corps to the Army so I can put those on my Uniform. Thanks

This is a quote from AR 670-1:

Personnel may wear service medals and service and training ribbons awarded by other U.S. Services on the Army uniform, except for the Air Force Longevity Service Award ribbon and Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard marksmanship medals and ribbons. Personnel will wear service and training medals and ribbons awarded by other U.S. Services after U.S. Army service and training ribbons, and before foreign awards.

So, you can wear any Marine Corps ribbons you have earned.

Does one wear the traditional 'slide-on' ribbons or the mil-thin ribbons on A's? If it doesn't matter, which one is easiest to maintain/looks better?

it doesn't matter. if you just have the basic gimme ribbons, the slide-on are probably easiest and cheapest and by far the most common that I've seen in AMEDD. the thin mount ribbons look very nice, however, and those of us who are prior-service and OCPD about our uniforms often wear them.

Do you have to wear those ribbons? Or can you just leave the whole medal rack off your uniform?

A's: yes
B's: optional (most don't)

Can anyone comment for the Air Force? Should we buy ahead of COT training? I'm female btw, (you could prob tell from my screename). Not sure what kind of uniform (dress) we need, but do we have to get a skirt, or do they let you wear pants?
