does anyone who got into baylor or somehow knows anything about their admissions process have any info about how much your gpa/mcat weigh into the process? both my gpa and mcat are slightly below their average but i don't know how much they consider LOR's/statement/interview?

do i stand a chance or are they pretty "numbers heavy"
(i have already interviewed there)

If you have already interviewed there, then they're definitely interested in you. The percentage of interviewees who wind up getting in is better at Baylor than it is at many other schools. So stop worrying, because you're already in the running. :luck:

thanks for the support! anyone else with any ideas?

For those of you who got in, what does your status page say?

Um yeah they went into excruciating detail about their acceptance process when I interviewed. Think of all the interviewees as a deck of cards. It's small early on, like August. They rank everyone from best to worst based on their entire app and interview. Interview some more. Shuffle them into the deck according to rank. Keep doing that until February. Each couple of weeks (?) after interviews they accept the very top of the deck. The middles will get accepted later on depending on rank and responses (Y/N) from accepted top-of-the-deck people. And the bottoms will not be accepted. They were very frank. Sounds intimidating, but at least they were honest. So much pressure! :scared:

But I hear even getting an interview is a very good sign. 🙂 Here's hoping.

Humbug! I still got the thin envelope from them.

whoa theyre sending out rejections already? i thought they waited till the very end

so are they sending rejection letters soon or not unil the spring?

Not until at least the spring. I think deuist was an applicant from a previous year (but please correct me if I am wrong, deuist.)

Correct. I applied to med school two years ago and got my rejection letter in May. My humbug was in reference to Q's comment that many interviewees get accepted there.

I think the word "many" has a tendency to suggest "the majority", which is clearly not the case. Only 1 in 3 or 4 interviewees get accepted. You're amongst 67-75% of the interviewers who didn't get accepted. My condolences.

According to 2005 statistics they accepted 285 out of 664 total interviewed. Of those 285 accepted, 168 matriculated. It is roughly 42 percent for out of state and 47 percent for instate.

Where did you get those statistics?

LIES, then why haven't I gotten a phone call yet huh!?

HUH!?

TELL ME THAT, WHY DON'T YOU!!!???

Amphibians are ugly.

The statistics come from US news, and there is a thread on here that has it. A very very old thread that I don't have a link to.

AHHH!!!! How come they aren't calling at all right now... especially to my phone. Oh well... I hope I will get that magical call soon. Also, the pre-match for the Texas schools are supposed to be out next week... this is going to be a month of just waiting for nothing.

Hi everyone. Long time observer, first time poster. Thanks for your tips and advice. Question, I checked my baylor status page and it says "your file has been reviewed". This was a week ago and I haven't heard anything yet. Are there a lot of people for whom the staus page has changed, but no word yet? Does this amount to a rejection?

Thanks for any tips. best of luck.

My status page went from "Your file is complete" to "Your file has been reviewed" to my current status "Your application has already been screened and is currently being processed." All that happened within two weeks. I got an interview invitation a week later after the last status change.

I've been stuck on "Your application is complete and has been reviewed by the committee" for at least a month... it's discouraging...

Don't get discouraged folks! I was complete for a whole month before invited for an interview.

thanks everyone! Best of luck with the process.

I have the same, somewhat ambiguous, "your app is complete and has been reviewed by the committee" status. Wondering if those who have received interview invites experienced this status or went from "complete" straight to "interview". Thanks!

I think all us in-staters should start to hear things within the next few days. Baylor's smart and they know that they want their top picks to receive their offer at LEAST at the same time as TMDSAS sends out theirs, if not before.

The two people on here that already recieved phone calls heard back on a Wednesday evening. More tomorrow maybe?!

I really hope I get a call today. They shouldn't tell us that some people may hear back within two weeks of their interview. Ignorance is a bliss. I rather not know when they are going to call back.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't count on that. Baylor is truly rolling admissions, and I don't really think that they are competing with TMDSAS. However, like someone said in another thread, judging from previous year's threads on Baylor acceptances, the number of acceptances should really start to pick up late Nov. time frame, and continue through Jan. (or later -- I forget)

I don't care where I hear from on Nov. 15th, I just want to hear from somewhere. In fact, in all likelihood, I'm going to call every Texas school to ask. As soon as I get an acceptance, I'm on the first plane ride out of this country! Woohoo!

Well, in some ways they are competing. Baylor isn't every TX resident's first choice.
Plus, in the past, no one heard from TMDSAS schools until February, so Baylor had pretty much notified everyone by then.

I'm just guessing here, I could totally be wrong. But it makes sense to me.

Well, it's almost noon in Houston. I wonder when Baylor is going to call today. For those of you who got calls already, about what time did they call you?

We've been here, done that. Suppose Baylor is not your first choice, but offers you admission earlier than your first choice. Assume that sometime later, your first choice offers you admission. What did Baylor gain by giving you that early acceptance? How likely are you to change your mind based upon an early acceptance to your non-first-choice school? From reading previous year's acceptance threads (not just Baylor) I think most premeds sit on their acceptances until they have heard from all of their schools. Then they make their decision (usually by posting a "Which one of these would you choose" thread here.)

I interview on friday for Baylor. I'm so scared :scared:

I just keep thinking, "Come on San Antonio or Houston! I just want to get in somewhere!!"

You'll do great!!! They really went out of their way to make you feel comfortable - even more so than some of the other schools. :luck: :luck: You'll do fine. Good luck!!

I hope someone will receive a call today.

My friend got a call from Baylor today.

He/she interviewed on Oct. 6th. He/she is one of the MD/PhD candidate so I guess the his/her stats are high.

I think today is the day!!! Get ready for the call.

Who would I contact in the admissions office to send an application update?

I think Dean Michael would be a good start. If not, I'm sure he can direct you to the right person.

Do you know what his email is? I've have scoured Baylor's website and haven't been able to find a single email for anyone in admissions.

Because it seems that many of you are wondering:
1) There is NO magic day of the week for calls. I swear it's the truth. Cross my heart. I got in on a Tuesday, other classmates of mine got in on every other day of the week.
2) Acceptances can come at ANY time. This really isn't reassuring, I know, but if you don't get a call for 1, 2, 3 months, don't fret. I interviewed in November, was accepted in April. Many of my classmates were accepted later - like May or June.
3) If you've already interviewed, sending some kind of letter of update may make you feel better, but it really doesn't do any good unless it tells them that you've won the Nobel Prize for whatever. The committee has already met and discussed you, and placed you on the ranking list. They do not go back and reconsider your file. Your letter will be read by the admissions secretary and may get glanced over by someone on the committee, then it will go in your file. If you're dying to get in, you can always try to arrange and meet with Dr. Michaels to see what else you can do, but a letter really won't do anything.

wow, Baylor calls you if you get accepted? That seems pretty nice heh, I thought you just get emails/letters like the rest of the Texas schools.

Do you guys know if you get anything if you get rejected?

I'm interviewing on Friday! Kinda worried since it's so late in the interview season, lots of seats having been filled and all...😕
