thanks Cupidsfriend!

so from what i see, URM's seem to be getting the calls first. Maybe they will consider the rest of us non-URM's later on in the week or next week. anywho, if we dont get in its not the end of the world. there's always dental applications starting may 1 and we can always re-apply to postbacc again next year!

Love the persistence and positive attitude!

... I'm trying to stay hopeful! 👍

Goodluck folks! i was one of the non-baylor post baccs at UTD so i understand the stress. It's a good program but you gotto put in the hours.

OH THANKS!

so you are not in the program but you know of the curriculum?

jirotrom, what do you mean by non baylor postbacc? Were you one of the students who applied and did not get into the program? What was your back up?

I actually ended up getting a call yesterday!!! Now unto the next step of preparations. Ms. Sneed said they will email with further details and I am just waiting on that now. Goodluck to everyone!!! And I am an URM for anyone wondering.

What time did you get your call? and when did you apply?

I sent in my application during the last week I think the Monday before it was due. I got a call in the evening around 4 I think.

also are you an URminority?

I was given to option to pick between April 4-6 at specific times. I was told the interview would be for an hour and half including a tour of the school at the end.
@ HASassin, I am an underrepresented minority as i stated earlier. I am still anxious as i have yet to recieve the e-mail but i am sure it is coming soon, probably once they finish calling everyone.

Could somone call to see if they are still calling people? lol I have called so many times I think she recognizes my voice. Not to feel hopeless but I am starting to, I feel like they might not space out so many days to contact people, and maybe all the calls have ended :scared:.

ok I couldnt help it lol I emailed her, she said "the calls havn't ended, the committe is still reviewing files"

hmmm, i guess thats still good. but i cant help but think calls wont apply to me bc im not URM...:-(

but goodluck to the rest of you guys that have applied!
i really wish you guys the best!

Lol why is that?
It's mainly geared towards URMs. You have about a 2% chance of getting in if you're anything but a URM. I'm not saying don't apply, but if you do, don't get your hopes up.

For those of you who did not receive a call from Baylor's post bacc program, what are your backup plans? I have been looking into UTD's post bacc program and was wondering if any of you were going to apply for Fall 2011 admission. I have been seeing posts from students saying if you get a 3.7 in the post bacc classes and score a 19 or 20 (not sure which one), you get an automatic interview with the Texas dental schools. Here is the link.

^ Yup its true about the automatic interviews. I believe the requirements are 3.7 and a 19 on the DAT with nothing under a 17 on any sections. Students were told this during an orientation.

If you are in Texas, I am not sure why you are looking for any other alternatives or out of state SMPs.......

A lot of my buddies who were in this program have gotten into dental/med schools in Texas or out of state.

Just wanted to know if anyone else was applying because I'm not sure if I should apply or not. I'm not looking for out of state SMPs, I would rather do a post bacc program in Texas. What is your opinion on the program exactly?

Its a great program with an awesome advising staff. If you have the funds to move up to Dallas and go to school at UTD, it is probably the best bet in Texas. You can do post bacc work at any school, but it will be more organized at UTD and they have agreements with dental/medical schools.

The program is getting harder by the semester to enroll, so I advise you do it sooner rather than later. I know the requirements was much less when I applied 2 years ago.

I don't know about having all of the funds to move and go to school there though. Is there financial aid and housing available?

I already applied to the UTD postbacc program, Scott said we will know in May if we are accepted or not. Now I am praying I get into this, otherwise I will just take higher level science courses, volunteer, etc..and reapply to dental schools next year.

Next year? Are you not going to reapply for this cycle that is coming up in May?

No because I talked to the counsler at Baylor, because Iam not a bio major I need more upper level classes, so there is no point in applying this year..Im just going to work on improving my application and apply next year.

I would take that with a grain of salt. Baylor REALLY REALLY loves people with lots of upper division bios. I don't think the other Texas school doesn't focus on it as much. Like I know a person who was a business major, did the prereqs and not too much more, did great on the DAT, and got into Houston. So it's totally possible. They might scrutinize you more but its not like they're going to flat out reject you.

I think you should apply to the Texas schools and give it a shot. You never know what might happen. Applying for the 3 in Texas is super cheap so you really have nothing to lose.

I think if you can try to retake your DAT and reconsider who you will ask for recommendation letters, then you will have a better chance of getting into other schools beside the three in Texas.

I received an email on Feb. 7th about Baylor's post bacc program but I was excepted to dschool elsewhere so I'm not applying to the program.

I would agree with this. When I interviewed at Baylor, all 3 of the interviewers, one of which was Dr. Miller, told me that they wanted me to take a science class (micro, a&p II, or something) during the spring and said that I didn't have much upper level biology. The first thing each of them said, "you did very well on your DAT..." and then "I think it would benefit you to take another class since you will have been out of school for 1.5yrs by the time you start dschool." I graduated with a B.S. in Psychology in december of 2010, so I didn't do much of anything extra other than my prereqs. When they said that in my head I said, "yaaaaaa, I think I'll take my chances..." lol I probably would have registered for a spring class and notified them, had Baylor been my first choice.

2 is all That you need for LOR. I sent my application this past Monday.

Has anybody received an invite for an interview for this 2012-2013 cycle yet?

Hey sonrie,

I spoke with Ms. Sneed and she told me that they will not begin to review the applications until after the deadline, I would expect a call until after Spring Break. From what a student currently in the program told me, the time you sent your application DOES matter.. hope that helps! I sent mine in the second week so fingers crossed!

i hope it's true bc i sent my app on the second week too. let's keep each other updated on this thread. i know that when i applied to this program two years they were having interviews even before the app due date so seems like they changed things. two years ago they also sent the email notification about the program like right on the date that they started accepting apps but this year they sent it like a week after. good luck to everyone~

hey guys I also applied to the BPP This cycle I will keep you guys posted if I hear anything

I am also taking post bacc courses at UTD. I know from speaking with Janet in admissions at Baylor that they want you to continue to take courses even after graduating.

That's correct. Out of all the Texas schools is Baylor the only one that require continuing education after graduation?
