:scared:Does anyone know...

Baylor requires a LOR from a dentist, if i dont have one...do i not apply at all to Baylor?????????????????? Or should I try to find someone in like a week's time?????????

thanks

If you don't have a rec, they likely won't consider you. You should try your dentist from home that has known you for a while, or your orthodontist if you don't have any experience in the dental profession. I would highly suggest interning or shadowing a dentist or else you won't really understand what this profession is like - esp. if you just read what you see on SDN!

In general, it looks better for your app if you have a letter from a dentist. Baylor isn't the only school that requires it... I'm pretty sure Tufts and Detroit Mercy require them too to name a few (I think).

I HAVE shadowed but, with the DA mostly...the dentist really didnt have the time to have me shadow her...I'd just see her running around everywhere...and she told me to just fill out the evaluation form and she'd sign it but thats not right nor would it be an honest evaluation on me! it would probably sound way to good if it was up to me...

but thanks

Why not write a LOR for her signature? It can be as honest as you make it.

I would not miss applying to a school just for that. Ask your local dentist and let him/her know that you need it. They will understand (especially if they went to Baylor or the like). It will strengthen your app everywhere you apply. They just want to make sure you know what your getting into. You can always send it in later if you must.

My experience is that most dentist will help you no questions asked... They have all been where we are and understand. Since you have shadowed at a practice then you need to go to them first. I am assuming if the dentist let you in his/her office in the first place then they are cool with you. Write a letter for the doctor in advance since you don't have much experience with the person. Just explain your situation and offer the letter. They might write one, or might sign yours. I shadowed my guy for the last three years, so he knows me very well, and still made write my own. He is just lazy... haha! Good luck. See you at Baylor.

Apply to Baylor. If for some reason you cannot come up with a LOR from a dentist (but try very hard to get one) it is not the death of your application. You just have to be that much better elsewhere. There are a few admitted on day one without a LOR.
