Hi all, new here. I have gained admission to BCOM and am waiting to hear back from NYITCOM - AR. I wanted to ask and see what the better school is, just in case I were to gain admission to NYITCOM - AR as well, or if I should commit and submit my deposit for BCOM.

Please let me know your take. I very much appreciate it!

Best

A bird in the hand is worth... you know the rest. It would be stupid to not pay your deposit at BCOM and find out later that you're waitlisted or rejected at NYIT. Anyway, BCOM is also actually the better school in my opinion.

If BCOM is your only acceptance so far I would send in your deposit to secure your seat.... it could be your only offer.

Deposit. You don't know when you'll hear back from nyit. Check with them though

Do you think BCOM is the better school of the two mentioned? I'm going to deposit for BCOM but am wondering which of the two is a better opportunity.

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply! What reasons do you think BCOM is the better school?

Because BCOM IMO have better rotation sites meaning better clinical education. And because they’re actually working on GME programs (see here: https://bcomnm.org/academics/gme/ )

NYIT-AR is not supported in the state of Arkansas because this privilege goes to UAMS and ARCOM students. Meaning not good rotations in AR and/or have to move away for better rotations. Not currently working on GME. Location is also not the best in the state of AR.

Update: I got into both schools. Anyone have suggestions as to which one will allow me to have a better education/clinicals/better chance at matching?

Hi everyone,

So I have been admitted to both programs and need guidance to figure out which one to choose. I have been reading so much one-sided information regarding NYITCOM-AR, specifically about difficulty with rotation sites, faculty that is not too approachable for student success (which I found to be quite the opposite during my interview), low board scores for the first class (haven't found definitive information about this yet, the fact that the state doesn't support the school being there, and some other things. How accurate are these statements?

BCOM felt like a pretty solid program, and I feel like it will in a few years be a pretty good program. But board scores were low and actually on a downward trend, the fact that it doesn't have a set curriculum is another thing, and it doesn't belong to an already established program like NYIT.

I understand this is more of a cons list, but given my two options, what is the general consensus on which program seems more promising?

Why would you even consider BCOM? Have you seen their most recent board passage rates? LOWEST PASSAGE RATE OF ANY SCHOOL THAT POSTED. Have you seen how many of their students matched? The article I read said over 120. To me that means less than 130. Assuming a starting class of 162, well that's not an assumption we know that's the number. If 121 students matched that means about 25% of their students never made it. 25%!!!!! 1 in 4 that is atrocious! You would be better off taking a year off and improving your application before taking the risk that BCOM statistically presents.

Thanks man I appreciate you responding to such an old thread. I have since been accepting to a school I believe to be an amazing fit for me!

Just copy pasting what I said in another thread in response to this exact message:

While I don't condone schools having super low board pass rates and super low 4-year graduation rates. BCOM match list looked really good for a DO school regardless though. Also, they probably admitted a lot of students with low stats for that inaugural class too which would explain those numbers. Plus, most of those in the 25% are probably just delayed 1 or 2 years and will still be able to do at least Family medicine with their degree. I would give BCOM a few more years to see if they improve or not before making a definitive judgment. But for now, I liked the outcome of those that made it. OP if you work hard, you will most likely make it. Just go in eyes open.

Edit: Also don't condone the school for profit status, but RVU is also for-profit and a good school. So I guess we'll see if BCOM improves and keep having decent match list like that in the future.
