Hey guys,

Say I add the research I am doing with a professor as a class for next semester (you can do that at my university). Would I be able to include that class in my BCPM gpa? The research fulfills electives for my biochemistry major, so I don't see why I couldn't. Would AMCAS have a problem with this?

I know a lot of people that did that. There's no problem with it.

Not a problem, it was included in my BCMP last year when I applied. Same situation.

Thank god, I would love to be able to do this! So then what would the course be called? Doesn't it have to be a B, C, P, or M title to be counted as a BCPM class?

At my school, it's called "Senior Project"...would this be a problem?

Awesome, so say I do this, and then I register for the Senior Honors Thesis, would I be able to have that counted as well into my BCPM GPA?

Senior Honors Thesis is basically research. You just have that as the title.

At my school they have the title Thesis/Individual Study. I think that as long as you get a grade letter it will be ok.

No. AMCAS lets you make your own classifications based on course content - I took a course in the applied math department that was really a pedagogy course so I didn't classify it as BCPM, but I took a psych stats course with a PSYC course code which counted for BCPM. Pretty sure you'll only get called out if you deliberately and obviously misclassify courses.

Some previous applicants have had success with counting these courses, even with a generic title, as BCPM classes if the department was a BCPM department but weren't successful if the department was generic (i.e. it wasn't a BCPM department)

Ah I see what you're saying. Yeah, the research would be within the department of biology and biochemistry.

I just checked and while the course is a biochem course, it's described as an independent study. It'll still work into the BCPM gpa right?
