When I was a resident at Duke, the plastics fellows were all male, and all average-to-troll looking (but all, save for one, had completed at least PGY7, and one 8 and one 9, before commencing fellowship). They weren't case studies of what they were going to do.
Derm at Duke, on the other hand, were all movie-star pretty, male and female (and I'm a straight guy).

Yeah, I've just heard that "it can get you places" during interviews... but that's just a general fact about life.
I dunno...guess I was good looking enough to get interviews but not enough to match. 😉
