Is it possible to become certified as a dental hygienist while in dental school? I am wondering if I would be able to bypass any classes (due to taking classes in dental school) and take the state exam? This would make it possible to work on the weekends...

Has anybody done this or know of someone who has?

Never heard of anyone doing that, I can't imagine it's worth the time or effort to work 1 day a week.

I believe that you can take the exam after 2nd year in Massachusetts. I remember at Tufts they were saying you could do hygiene 3rd and 4th year and make some extra money.

It depends on the state. That's not allowed in Washington.

And good luck finding an office that's open on the weekend. They are few and far between.
