I was wondering if opticians have it much easier in optometry school compared to the other students.

I'm not an optician but I did work in an optical before I started school and I thought it was incredibly helpful. Since opticians have optics classes as well, that would definitely put you ahead of the game as far as that class goes. But I don't think it's worth it to go to opticianry school just to make OD school easier.

I think it would be really helpful for real life, but it wouldn't make a huge difference as far as how easy or hard school is.

Hello,
I was an optician for 13 years before going to optometry school. I agree with the others. It helps with your optics courses, and it helps make your refraction classes make more sense. However, it does not give you a leg up when it comes to disease, pharm, anatomy, etc. It is an advantage to be an optician, but it did not help me as much as I thought it would.
