Hey guys, I really need some advice about whether to attend Boston University or New York University. Here is where I'm having a dilemna. I graduated from NYU undergrad and it is in my home state, so I have an affinity towards it, BUT I have only received a conditional response from them, whereas Boston U. has sent me a full acceptance letter with a chance to pay a deposit for a seat. I have to reply to Boston very soon and have the check ready to be sent. I just want to make sure I'm making the right decision as it is a damn expensive one. So here are some traits about both schools, if you guys can add, or provide insight, that'd be great. Thanks.

NYU BU
tution: about the same
class size: ~350 in second year ~250 in second year
housing: more expensive less expensive
city: New York (wins for me) Boston
misc: ? APEX,EXCEL,Externships

I'm sure I'm missing some traits about the schools, so please guys, help!!

Is there any overwhelming difference between the two schools??

Supersonic,

I might the person with the closest situation to yours on this board. I've lived in NYC all my life and graduated from NYU last year. I was invited for an interview at both schools. I messed up at my NYU interview but I was offered another one. I declined it after I was accepted to BU because BU was a little better in some ways. I wanted to get the NYU triple crown (undergrad, DDS, postdoc) for my own satisfaction but by going to BU I get the campus feeling that NYU lacked. Boston seems like a great city only 200 miles away from home, stress on the away. Some people need a change in scenery. One thing you could do is PM sonigee because I believe she was in the exact same position last year yet she chose NYU.

I'll give you some advantages of to going to BU:
- The city of Boston can be better in some ways. The people are more polite than NYers which can help when you bump into someone on their subway and don't have to apologize for scuffing their new air force ones (white on whites of course). With 60 area colleges and universities, Boston is a little more enlightening so you don't have to argue with pedestrians when you're about to run them over and they're jaywalking. Lastly the Charles River is way cleaner than the Hudson or East Rivers. With that being said I still can proclaim that I love NY.
-BU has: smaller class size (125 vs. 240ish) in the first year. The OPTIONAL DVD curriculum (I liked the DVD, but some don't). Paid APEX internship (Helps pay the high ticket prices at Fenway). You're buying your equipment, not renting them. Lastly, being a BU Terrier beats being an NYU Violet any day. At least BU has a good hockey team.

BTW-Dr.Shaw has the NYU triple crown.

Hey PashaJ, nice to know others share similar experiences. You and I think very alike about NY and Boston. I have just recently decided to attend BU this fall! Post your email and I'll drop you a line, we'll catch up.

I guess you could email/PM me by clicking on the appropriate button below my posts. Good to see I have another BU classmate. See you in the fall.
